Katharine McPhee “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” “American Idol” Video: Watch Farewell Season 15 Return Performance!
Katharine McPhee sang “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” for her last-ever “American Idol” performance on Thursday. Watch below!
McPhee, of course, finished in second place during season five back in 2006, and “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” was arguably her most iconic performance. The singer was the runner-up that year to winner Taylor Hicks. After the competition, she still scored a notable record deal, signing with “Idol” creator Simon Fuller’s 19 Recordings.
McPhee’s first album, which was self-titled, came out in 2007, and though she’s changed record label several times, there’s been three more studio releases since then. The last album, Hysteria, dropped just last fall. It featured the single “Lick My Lips,” McPhee’s first in five years.
In the interim, the star was able to merge her love of performing with a growing passion for acting on the short-lived NBC musical series “Smash.” These days, McPhee is starring on the action-drama “Scorpion,” which is in its second season on CBS. Interestingly, one of the show’s producers is music manager Scooter Braun.
Since her run on “Idol,” McPHee has returned to the FOX music competition several times. One such memorable appearance was in 2003 when, as Gossip Cop reported at the time, she teamed up with OneRepublic for the show’s 450th episode. McPhee revealed in February that she would be making one last appearance on the “Idol” stage.
Indeed, earlier Thursday she shared throwback photos from her original time on the show, tweeting, “Coming back tonight for my final performance.” Unfortunately, that means McPhee won’t be on hand for the big finale next month. Check out the video of her last “Idol” performance ever below!
