VIDEO: Katharine McPhee & Pat Monahan Sing National Anthem At NFL Playoffs; Train Singer Makes 6’3” Football Player Cry
Katharine McPhee sang the National Anthem before the NFC Championship game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and the season five “American Idol” runner-up wowed the crowd of more than 60,000 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle with her beautiful rendition (video below). Not surprisingly, the former “Smash” star hit every note beautifully. Sadly, for the Green Bay Packers, the team lost to the Seahawks in overtime.
Across the country in Foxborough, Massachusetts, Pat Monahan of the group Train sang the National Anthem before the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts AFC Championship game. He, too, did a spectacular rendition of the The Star-Spangled Banner. In fact, Monahan’s singing seemed to get the Colts’ 6-foot-3-inch defensive lineman Arthur Jones a bit emotional (video below). Starting at the 50-second mark, the 337-pounder starts to get a little weepy. By the 1:13 mark, Jones is fighting back the tears. By the end of the National Anthem, Jones regained his composure.
It’s unclear whether Jones’ response was simply because of the supercharged feelings leading up to the big playoff game or just the way that Monahan effortlessly hits those high notes. Either way, Jones and the Colts had a lot more to cry about since they got trounced by the Patriots. Check out McPhee and Monahan’s renditions of the National Anthem and tell us what you think.
