Katharine McPhee Files For Divorce Seven Months After Smash Cheating Scandal
Katharine McPhee and Nick Cokas are divorcing. The actress-singer’s rep tells People, “After six years of marriage, and having been separated for the past year, Katharine McPhee has filed for a dissolution of marriage from Nick Cokas. The two have an amicable relationship and will remain friends. They ask that people respect their privacy during this time.”
The official split comes seven months after McPhee was spotted kissing her “Smash” director, Michael Morris. The pair was alleged to be dating, though he was also married — to Mary McCormack. Morris and McCormack went on to reportedly reconcile, and McPhee and Cokas were spotted out together in recent months, with reports claiming they, too, were giving their relationship another shot.
Apparently it was not to be, and People says the cheating did not play a role in the eventual breakup, with a source quoted as saying, “It was just time. They’d grown apart and weren’t right for each other anymore.”
McPhee and Cokas wed in 2008, several years after he encouraged her to try out for “American Idol,” where she eventually finished second in season 5.
