CLAIM: Kardashians On The Decline in Marketplace

Truth rating: 1

(GettyImages.com)

A scathing report on the Kardashians in today’s New York Post seems to be a little light on the facts.

The newspaper contends that Kim Kardashian and her ubiquitous family have taken a sharp nosedive in the marketplace.

“Everything the reality family touches turns absolutely toxic,” charges the article, claiming “party promoters, magazine editors and television execs [are] all scrambling to blacklist them.”

Really?

According to so-called “insiders” for the Post, ratings for the family’s reality show “have plummeted,” with magazines and products carrying the Kardashian name supposedly “unmarketable.”

That’s not exactly true.

For instance, “Kourtney & Kim Take New York” is up 43% from the previous season and averaging its best ratings ever, with more than 3 million total weekly viewers.

Interestingly, the Post never mentions the show.

The newspaper alleges that “the wheels came off” for Kim in the wake of her split from Kris Humphries, and claims promoters have cooled on bringing her in for personal appearances.

“Kim was once paid $600,000 to spend New Year’s Eve at Tao Las Vegas,” write the Post. “Now it’s the total opposite.”

Huh?

That reported payday was for this New Year’s Eve – the one just two weeks ago, well after the Humphries breakup.

The article also quotes a single publicist who’s gotten “bored” with the Kardashians and one club owner who jokes that he’d “pay her $600,000 personally not to [appear]” to make it seem like there’s a huge trend toward “blacklisting” the family.

As Forbes found out, a number of other details in the original article, including the premise that magazines with Kardashians on the cover saw sales drop recently, are cherry picked and misleading.

One top editor at a major weekly tells Gossip Cop of the Kardashians: “They still sell.”

Essentially, the Post piece tries to invent a dramatic story that simply isn’t there.

If anything is “toxic” here, it’s the reporting.

The K TV series is up 43% because everyone wants to watch the train wreck known as Kim’s sham marriage.

Two writers at Forbes seem to disagare. The article that refutes the NY Post takes one stance while a Forbes sportswriter quote the Post article — apparently Forbes writers can’t agree themselves. MSNBC reported that sales of their clothing line is tanking at Sears and I have a friend who personally heard a lot of booing in Vegas when Ms. K appeared. That plus the boycott of their products I’m sure is having some effect. This will be the year they sink..

  • oh yeah lol

There watching the train wreck but there not buying the goods.. Gossip cop come on now you know that. There is lot sof info out there on there decline.. BIg bucks sure right now & sex sells also. Shows what our society has become. Lets watch this train wreck next year with some independant figures & see where they fair… I bet you change your tune. Have you noticed lately even Forbes info is not quite right & you have financial people that don’t agree depending on there own bias..lol

The Daily Mail here in the UK has picked up this story too.

You can’t count clothing sales. Those ebb and flow dramatically. I was actually giving credence to the New York Post story. I thank Gossip Cop for giving the story some perspective.

A “top major weekly” says they still sell issues? Is that a tabloid, selling the trainwreck?

GC, are you doing promo for them?

The K’s have suffocated us long enough. I have been sooo very over them for about a year. They are all puppets and Ryan Seacrest is the one with his hand up their butts. His other hand is still counting his cash. Go away K’s!!!

I made a bet that the Kim and Humps marriage would not last 30 days so I lost that bet. I am a big fan of the show so it aint losing no ratings here. No offence at all but Kim is not ever gonna have a succesfull marriage because she is never gonna find any man thats gonna clean up after themselves. I am so much like Cloe you would not believe it. Big Fan. You go Kardasians!!!

Absolutely agree with that, icequeen. But aside from that, “Gossip Cop” needs to do its own fact-finding, since any simple google search with show that they do NOT in fact top 3 millions weekly viewers. Furthermore, they only topped 3 millions viewers on their premier, so dear writer, please check your own facts before you throw stones.

“One top editor at a major weekly tells Gossip Cop of the Kardashians: “They still sell.” Really? Please identify the “top editor”. Please identify the “major weekly”. Lame journalism, quite amateurish but no surprise since Gossip Cop is but a pandering spin-cycle that can’t even yield to good grammar (sample the aforementioned sentence: “One top editor at a major weekly tells Gossip Cop of the Kardashians.” Tells/of? Who wrote this tripe? Maybe a chocaholic who has been exiled to shop class? He or she makes Joe Biden looks like Plato. Rhapsodized by platitudes (including the faded Kardasians), the editor of this piece is a classic example of a literate-challenged moron who can only try to communicate in cyberspace.

Life Style is the magazine the Mom has an “advice” column in. They now rotate through the Kartrashians and one of them is on the cover each week. Inside all their diet pills, perfume, clothes, etc. It is like the Kartrashian magazine. I never buy it anymore. I refuse to feed the pigs.
