Kanye West Asks People In Wheelchairs To Stand Up For Him At Concert (VIDEO)
Kanye West stopped his performance in Sydney, Australia on Friday night, and wouldn’t start the next song until everyone stood up for him — not knowing that those who didn’t were in wheelchairs.
Oh, it’s gets worse. Pointing into the crowd, West said in an perturbed tone that there were “two people there that don’t want to stand up,” which prompted lots of boos from the audience.
“This is the longest I’ve had to wait,” he added even more annoyed. Only after nearly three minutes when it became clear to the rapper that the pair could not stand up on their own, Kanye — to be fair — said, “In a wheelchair is fine.”
The whole thing is unpleasant. And while West’s penchant for rants have sometimes made other concerts unpleasant, too, this may be taking it to a whole new level.
West is known for being a perfectionist, and demanding respect and attention. His outspoken personality is often controversial. His targets have included everyone from Taylor Swift to former President George W. Bush. But the circumstances are, uh, a bit different when a.) it’s something people have already paid money for, and b.) obviously not everyone has disabilities that are readily apparent. Don’t they deserve respect, too?
