Kanye West Stares Silently In Awkward “SNL” Promo — WATCH VIDEO
Kanye West stares silently in an awkward “SNL” promo released on Friday. Watch below.
West will be the musical guest on this weekend’s “Saturday Night Live.” Melissa McCarthy is serving as host. Together they teamed up with Taran Killam for a teaser for the show. And in less than 30 seconds, West serves up his signature weirdness.
The clip begins with McCarthy saying, “Hi, I’m Melissa McCarthy, and I’m hosting ‘SNL’ with Kanye West.” The rapper, standing next to the actress, shows absolutely no reaction to his name and just stares blankly at the camera. Killam, positioned on McCarthy’s other side, then says, “Melissa and Kanye, biggest show ever.”
To that West at least turns his head, but still keeps his expression vacant. And it stays that way as McCarthy and Killam do a bit about whether the show will really be the “best.” West says nothing, and instead looks all around.
It’s only at the very end that West nods when McCarthy says there’s “probably a happy medium” to Killam’s up-and-down enthusiasm. Interestingly, an alternate version of the teaser airing on NBC with similar dialogue shows West a little more into it. Of course, the music star has a reputation for coming off as aloof to the point where people actually point it out when he’s seen smiling or laughing.
What kind of persona he’ll have on stage this weekend remains to be seen. West previously performed on the “SNL 40” special last year, and was the musical guest for episodes in 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, and 2013. Based on the commercial below, you may or not be excited for his return.
