Kanye West: Kim Kardashian And I Met With President Obama — We’re Voting Democrat In Midterm Elections
Is the great Kanye West–President Obama feud over? That seems to be the case, after West indicated he’s in the President’s corner in a series of tweets sent Tuesday night encouraging people to vote in the midterm elections.
Shortly after 6 p.m. Eastern, West tweeted, “Me and my wife met with President Obama two weeks ago.” He went on to write in subsequent tweets, “I’m supporting the Democratic ticket in these midterms. The midterms are extremely important. I know it’s last minute, but if you haven’t voted, please vote today.”
West’s comments are interesting for multiple reasons. First off, the rapper rarely tweets, much less about politics. Second, his Obama mention came hours after Kim Kardashian made one of her own. As Gossip Cop reported earlier, the reality star posted an Instagram photo featuring a cartoon likeness of herself and President Obama (in the style of her “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood” game), with the caption, “I’m standing with President Obama in the midterm election tomorrow!” While some were quick to criticize Kardashian, assuming she was an “idiot” who thought the Commander-in-Chief was on the ballot, it’s even more clear now that the star actually meant she’s aligning herself with Obama’s picks for the midterm races.
The President must’ve been quite persuasive in that meeting West says they shared. After all, it was just a year ago when the rapper slammed Obama for saying he and Kardashian represented a warped American dream. And that was after the President had already called West a “jackass.” The music star’s critical response to the remarks came after he was asked in a radio interview in which he was asked whether he and Obama will ever “break bread.” West responded, “Like how he used to come and visit me and my mama and tell me he’s about to run for President?” Insinuating that Obama just uses him for personal gain, the performer went on to say the President mentions him and Kardashian “just to be down,” and then warned, “I think he shouldn’t mention my baby mama’s name, cause we both from Chicago.”
Now West and Obama have apparently made amends, though it’s not clear how that came about. The rapper’s tweets are screengrabbed below.
