Kanye West NOT Recording David Bowie Cover Album, Despite Report
Kanye West is NOT recording a David Bowie cover album to pay tribute to the late music icon, despite a widely-spread report. Gossip Cop can debunk the claim.
The allegation originated in the Daily Star, an outlet that Gossip Cop has previously corrected several times for spreading false stories about West. In its latest inaccurate offering, the British tabloid claimed West was already working on the record, with plans to combine Bowie’s hits with his own musical stylings. A so-called “source” was quoted as saying, “Some are straightforward cover versions with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie’s music.”
The claims were was picked up by a slew of other outlets that didn’t bother to fact-check. And all the reports were enough to get thousands of apparently gullible fans to sign a petition seeking to stop West from making the album, as if such a thing would be possible. But the online campaign is all for naught. A rep for West confirms he is not recording a Bowie tribute cover record.
That said, West is a fan of the music legend. He tweeted after Bowie’s passing, “David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime. I pray for his friends and family.” The rapper was one of seemingly hundreds of celebrities who took to Twitter to pay tribute to Bowie last week.
