Kanye West Supports John Galliano’s Fashion Comeback After Racist, Anti-Semitic Rant
Kanye West took to Twitter on Monday to share his “excitement” over John Galliano’s return to fashion. The designer has been named the creative director of Maison Martin Margiela — three years after Galliano’s racist and anti-Semitic rant got him fired from Christian Dior.
“JOHN GALLIANO is the new creative director of MARGIELA,” West tweeted following Monday’s announcement. “I heard this rumor when I was in Paris and just received confirmation this morning!” He continued, “It is very exciting to see what powerful creatives do at different houses… Hedi at Saint Laurent, Nicolas at Vuitton and now John at Margiela.”
In 2011, video showed Galliano drunkenly ranting slurs aimed at a couple in Paris, leading to his termination from Dior after 15 years with the design house. The designer was later found guilty of anti-Semitic and racist comments by a French court following two separate incidents in Paris.
West clearly believes in second chances, which is not surprising. The star has had a number of blow-ups with the media, and is infamous for his on-stage, mid-concert rants. And yet he remains one of the biggest forces in music. Of course, the rapper’s comments have never risen to the level of offense Galliano caused with his.
