Kanye West Grammys Video: Watch “Only One” From 2015 Grammy Awards!
Kanye West sang “Only One” at the Grammys on Sunday. It was his first performance at the show in six years. Watch his performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards in the video below.
The emotional song is a tribute to North, West’s daughter with Kim Kardashian. The studio version features Paul McCartney. When it was released in December, it marked West’s first official new music since his album Yeezus. In it, he sings from the perspective of his late mother Donda.
In a statement released from West’s team, it was explained that he and McCartney were improvising one day when the music he played back during their “brainstorming session” was not what he recorded. “Kanye sat there with his family, holding his daughter North on his lap, and listened to his vocals, singing, ‘Hello, my only one.’ And in that moment, not only could he not recall having sung those words, but he realized that perhaps the words had never really come from him,” said the statement.
Kardashian explained on Twitter, upon the song’s initial release, “People always ask me what my favorite Kanye song is and it’s Only One. Kanye feels like his mom sang thru him to our daughter.” She added, “I cry every time I hear this song.” West’s solo Grammy performance was raw and barely lit. It’s definitely worth seeing.
