Kanye West Extra Rips Rapper And “Yeezy Season 3” Fashion Show
An extra for Kanye West’s “Yeezy Season 3” fashion show is ripping the rapper for not getting paid and other issues.
As Gossip Cop reported, West unveiled his new clothing collection at Madison Square Garden. He also simultaneously premiered his new album. And while a number of models were hired to wear the new clothes on an elaborate stage, hundreds of extras were enlisted to add to the presentation.
One participant, who goes by the name “Kurents” on Instagram, posted a scathing take on the event from his perspective. Along with a photo of himself in the crowd, he wrote, “Lmao I was on the megatron at Madison for yeezy 3. sh*t was trash. Kanye finnessed 1200 young black adults into working as extras for free to a sold out white crowd that was screaming ‘all day n*gga.'”
“We didn’t find out we weren’t getting paid til 6am. He sent us to jersey and put us in Salvation Army clothes (not yeezy, my pants were carhartt and my shirt was American apparel),” Kurents added. The models were also given an extensive list of more than 30 rules to follow, such as “no eye contact,” “no dancing,” and “do not act cool.”
It’s unclear if all extras were unpaid, or if some were, rightly or wrongly, considered volunteers. But West’s camp put out a call to fans last week that said, “Yeezy Season 3 is launching a casting for up to 1200 paid extras to participate,” and noted there’d be same-day payment of $50-$80 in cash. The casting notice further said, “Extras will go through makeup & wardrobe and will be positioned throughout the floor of Madison Square Garden in a fully designed set. They will stand comfortably throughout the set and receive direction on their performance gestures.”
It seems that was only partially Kurents’ experience, though. West hasn’t responded to the allegations. Maybe he’s too busy ranting about Taylor Swift?
UPDATE: A rep for West is insisting all extras were paid, but his camp does acknowledge that not all of them were wearing Yeezy clothing.
