Kanye West Retaliates Against “Today” By Canceling Performance
11:46 am, November 12th, 2010
The epic clash between Kanye West and “Today” continued with West’s early morning Twitter announcement that he will not perform on the show on November 26 as scheduled.
“I’m not performing on the Today Show for obvious reasons,” wrote the rapper. “I’m so happy the world got to see just a small piece of ‘the set up.’”
West is referring to his somewhat combative interview this week with Matt Lauer, during which the host tried to get his reaction to former president George W. Bush‘s disgust with West’s infamous 2005 claim that Bush “doesn’t care about black people.”
The performer took issue with Lauer’s decision to roll tape — during his interview with West — of Bush’s angry response to the charge of racism.
An agitated West said to Lauer, “You know what I’m saying, you don’t have to do the TV stuff with me. This is reality.”
He also became upset when “Today” aired video of West crashing the stage to interrupt Taylor Swift‘s acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards last year.
This morning, West tweeted that he would not perform on “Today” in two weeks, then wrote a series of messages explaining his rationale.
He ended his diatribe with a light touch: “All positive energy… all smiles. Much love to Matt and the whole Today Show. I accept ya’ll future apology in advance LOL!”
For the record, NBC is not commenting.
