Justin Timberlake received the first-ever Decade Award at the 2016 Teen Choice Awards on Sunday. Watch below!

The presentation for Timberlake was led by Kobe Bryant, a longtime friend and admirer. In fact, Timberlake gave Bryant the Icon Award at the ESPYs earlier this month, as Gossip Cop reported at the time. Now with the roles reversed, Bryant said, “Music, movies, television, music videos, fashion — whatever JT takes on, he dominates… Tonight, it’s one more milestone for the King of All Media.”

Timberlake took the stage to a standing ovation. For his speech, he began, “Thank you Teen Choice. As a former teen a while ago, who’s made a few choices along the way, I’m here to tell you you and your choices matter.” He said he learned “to respect all people on the basis of their character, not what they did for a living or the color of their skin.”

“I try to live my life working most closely with, making music with, and spending so much of my time with an amazing group of people — male, female, gay, straight, every walk of life,” Timberlake said, noting, “We are all different, but that does not mean we all do not want the same thing.”

Timberlake went on, “I ask you to learn not from my example but from all the greats who came before me.” He gave shout-outs to his musical inspirations, including Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks, and Elton John, but particularly Al Green, quoting his song, “Let’s stay together.”

That said, “I think we can learn from the greatest of all time,” Timberlake continued, referring to Muhammad Ali and going on to share some the legendary boxer’s “undying wisdom.” The singer-actor encourged, “Be generous, be kind, be fair. It’s not just the right thing to do, it’s a good thing to do.”

And with so much division currently in the world, “We can be part of the solution, and not part of the problem,” he said. Timberlake later concluded, “Go on and become the greatest generation yet.”

The Decade Award was the only special honor bestowed at this year’s Teen Choice. Timberlake is an interesting pick to be the inaugural recipient, considering he’s been in the business for a lot longer than 10 years. After all, *NSYNC released its first album in 1998.

Timberlake went solo in 2002. Over the years since, he’s amassed 10 Teen Choice awards, including the Ultimate Choice Award in 2010. He went into tonight’s ceremony also nominated for Choice Party Song, Choice Song From A Movie/TV Show and Choice Summer Song for “Can’t Stop The Feeling.” Check out full video of Timberlake’s Decade Award acceptance speech below!
