Justin Theroux Denies Saying 9/11 “Best Thing That Happened To New Yorkers”
Justin Theroux denies saying 9/11 was the “best thing that happened to New Yorkers.” Theroux was a New York resident at the time of the September 11th terrorist attacks 14 years ago. Now, according to the New York Post, he made light of the tragedy during a conversation on the set of his HBO series, “The Leftovers.” The claim is based on an alleged extra, who supposedly overheard the discussion.
Citing the so-called “tipster,” the tabloid alleges Theroux “was overheard saying in front of others on the show: ‘9/11 was the best thing that happened to NYers,’ followed by a story about getting a deal on rent. He said at the end of the process, the landlord was so mad, they threw the keys at him.”
The witness was apparently so “offended” by the “off-handed remark,” she decided to tell the tale to the Post. But a rep for Theroux is denying the alleged incident ever took place. The spokesperson says in a statement, “As a New Yorker and someone who has lived downtown for over 20 years, Justin would not make jest of 9/11.”
“The Leftovers” is currently nearing the end off its second season. The critically-acclaimed series will have its finale next Sunday.
