Justin Bieber Joins United Nations’ “#ForgivenessForPeace” Movement On International Day of Peace
Justin Bieber is supporting the United Nations’ “#ForgivenessForPeace” movement with a simple but powerful message he tweeted on Monday.
Last week, Secretary General Ban Ki-moon released a statement noting that the International Day of Peace would be coming up on September 21, and explaining, “The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. It was also established as an annual day of non-violence and cease-fire.”
He further revealed, “The theme of this year’s commemoration is ‘Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All’ which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace.” In honor of the day, Ki-moon said he was “asking all partners to lend their voices to this call for a laying down of arms, and to work non-stop in the days to come to bring about a 24-hour cease fire on September 21st.”
“Let’s make this International Day of Peace a day without violence, and a day of forgiveness. If, for one day, we can live in a world without aggression and hostility, we can imagine how much more is possible,” concluded the official. And while some might say there’s little a pop star like Bieber can accomplish in this area, he does have a Twitter reach of more than 67 million followers.
“Let’s all join the UN today and spread peace together through forgiveness,” Bieber tweeted to fans, adding the #ForgiveForPeace hashtag. The message has been retweeted 18,000 times and favorited another 21,000. Bieber didn’t reveal any specific plans, but went on to say, “Today is an amazing day.”
Maybe if more people shared the superstar’s optimism, the world would be a better place. TELL US: What do you think of Bieber showing support for the United Nations on the International Day of Peace?
