Justin Bieber Scores Second Number One Song As “Sorry” Dethrones Adele’s “Hello”
As Gossip Cop reported, Bieber and Adele both released their respective singles on October 23. While Bieber’s release was planned, Adele’s premiere of “Hello” was a surprise, and she managed to steal his thunder. “Hello” became an instant hit, and has spent the last 10 weeks atop the Hot 100 chart.
“Sorry,” meanwhile, has largely had to settle for second place, spending eight weeks in the runner-up position. It has now claimed the top spot, however, and several other milestones come along with that accomplishment. For starters, this is now back-to-back number one singles for Bieber as his last single, “What Do You Mean,” became his first-ever chart-topper in September.
Bieber also now has the second-place Adele surrounded, as his current single, “Love Yourself,” is at number three. He also has another song, “Mean,” in the top 10. The news comes just a few days after the singer made history in Adele’s native U.K. when he became the first artist to occupy the first three spots on the Top 40 Singles chart at the same time. There, “Love Yourself” ranks number one, followed by “Sorry,” and “What Do You Mean.”
Adele can still claim one big win over Bieber this week. Her record-breaking album 25 remains at number one on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, with Bieber’s Purpose holding tight at number two. In celebration of the Hot 100 news, Bieber simply tweeted, “#1 :),” with a link to the “Sorry” music video on YouTube.
