Justin Bieber Did NOT Become Hillsong Church Lay Preacher, Despite Report
Justin Bieber has not become a lay preacher nor is he going to give televised sermons from the Hillsong Church in Los Angeles, despite a holy, er, wholly inaccurate story. Gossip Cop can correct this report, which further alleges that The Biebs wants to “perform from the pulpit.”
The blasphemous claim first started in the Irish newspaper Sunday World before it quickly got picked up by numerous other outlets. According to the initial story, following three months of intense bible study, Bieber became a lay preacher and now “wants to bring TV cameras into L.A.’s trendy Hillsong Church so he can preach to the masses and spread the good word as a part-time televangelist.”
But that’s not all. The tabloid says Bieber wants to not only “boost ratings,” but also would like to raise big bucks, and has offered to read sermons and make on-camera appeals for donations.
The claims, however, are just bad gossip and not gospel. A rep for Hillsong Church says the Sunday World story is “totally fabricated.” And Brian Houston, co-founder of the original Hillsong Church in Australia, adds that it’s “not true that Justin Bieber has qualified to be lay preacher” or will preach at the church. Amen!
