Justin Bieber Strikes DUI Plea Deal: Report
Justin Bieber is reportedly set to make a plea deal in his DUI case.
Back in January, the pop star was arrested in Miami for driving under the influence, resisting arrest and driving without a valid license.
Ultimately, it was concluded that Bieber was not drunk (or drag racing, as originally alleged) but had been smoking pot.
According to TMZ, the singer now plans to plead guilty to reckless driving — he’ll be required to pay a fine and attend anger management classes, but the other charges will be dismissed and Bieber will not be placed on probation.
The outlet says that the agreement was delayed because the judge initially wanted Bieber to pay for and star in an anti-drug public service announcement, which both the star’s legal team and prosecutors felt was inappropriate.
Eventually, the judge opted not to force the PSA.
A second sticking point involved prosecutors wanting Bieber to attend drug and alcohol education courses instead of anger management — except the performer’s camp successfully argued that it would be an unwarranted admission that he has drug issues.
The drug education classes were dropped from the bargain, too.
When Bieber completes the terms of the arrangement, the reckless driving conviction will be expunged from his record.
Khalil, who was busted with Bieber in January, will reportedly strike a similar deal.
