Justin Bieber Settles Lawsuit Over Alleged Paparazzo Assault At Mall
Justin Bieber settled his lawsuit on Wednesday with paparazzo Jose Osmin Hernandez Duran, who sued the singer for allegedly assaulting him outside of a Los Angeles mall in May 2012. As Gossip Cop reported, Bieber get into a fight with the photographer while he and then-girlfriend, Selena Gomez, were leaving a mall where they had just seen a movie together.
After Duran reportedly blocked the singer’s car as he was trying to drive away, Bieber supposedly jumped out of his vehicle and attacked the paparazzo. Duran, who claimed in his suit that Bieber repeatedly kicked and punched him, subsequently called the police. Meanwhile, other photographers snapped photos of Gomez trying to calm Bieber down, as well as the singer missing a shoe and baseball cap as a result of the altercation.
Shortly after the incident, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office considered filing a misdemeanor battery charge against Bieber, however investigators found no evidence of visible injuries on the paparazzo. Additionally, there were no witnesses who could corroborate Duran’s assault claim, and so the singer was not brought up on any charges.
Duran then sued Bieber in 2013, alleging he had been inflicted with severe emotional distress following the run-in with the singer. On Wednesday, a trial for the lawsuit was scheduled, but the two parties settled the case before going to court. Details of the settlement, however, are being kept confidential. As Gossip Cop reported, Bieber settled a separate lawsuit in December with another photographer who alleged the singer hit his car and drove off while leaving a Los Angeles comedy club in 2013.
