CLAIM: Justin Bieber “Failed” to Donate Promised Money to Teen Mom Charity

Truth rating: 0

Justin Bieber failed to deliver on his promise to donate a portion of the sales of his single ‘Turn to You’ to the Bethesda Centre, a Salvation Army branch in London, Ontario, that supports teenage mothers,” begins a piece in Star that tries to smear the young singer.

The tab goes on to write that “without Justin’s contribution, the charity failed to meet its failed $1.5 million goal and will close on June 30,” which it did.

Not content to misrepresent the circumstances, Star then quotes a rep for the organization saying, “There’s been no indication at all that there would be proceeds in the future” from Bieber.

Stop.

Gossip Cop thoroughly investigated, and the Bethesda Centre was in terrible financial straits way before Bieber was asked to get involved, only a few weeks before facing what was an inevitable closing.

In fact, the center for teen moms — where the singer’s mother once lived —  appealed to the Salvation Army to extend its deadline before shutting down, with the hope that the proceeds from Bieber’s single could later be collected, but the Salvation Army declined.

Bieber had NOTHING to do with the Bethesda Centre’s problems.

The claim is “completely untrue,” adds Bieber’s rep.

Not only that — and interestingly omitted for the Star story — is that Bieber felt so bad about the place closing, he’s pledged to help other programs for teen moms.

So, contrary to the tab’s portrayal, Bieber is the hero, not the villain.

…And the rags like Star tries to blame or smear Justins name again. Yes. he may has his faults, (because he is human) but I really do not think he will do something like this.

Not a fan of his music, but i agree he seems to be a nice kid.

I’m here in London Ont..reading this..and in no way was Justin B responsible for the closure of the center. Many of us here, locally, have been following this story since it’s beginning. It had nothing to do with that Kid. SA could have extended that deadline…400,000.00 was raised locally..enough to wait for proceeds from Bieber’s single. The Salvation Army…for whatever reason..chose to close the center anyway. This kid and his Mom only tried to help…that’s all..

I may not like the kid’s music, but I think he’s a good person. He does do a lot for charity. Shame the media’s smearing him.

Thanks Gossip Cop, for clearing up this issue. I hate it when the tabloids wrongly accuse people of all manner of evil things. I wasn’t aware of this one before the ‘hate’ article came out….and I knew it couldn’t be true. Thanks again.

Neither the he funds from sales of Bieber’s song or his mother’s book could be donated within the time frame demanded by the Salvation Army, and they refused an time extension (despite Bethesa raising more money than required for 1 year’s worth of operational costs). Rather than handing money directly to the Salvation Army, Bieber’s mom set up a separate fundraising site to ensure money donated would go toward either Bethesda or an organization supporting young mothers, unlike the $400k donated directly to the Salvation Army (purely for the intent of saving Bethesda) which will now to go any program Salvation Army wishes to allocate it. The Salvation Army has completely lost 100% of my support because of this move

I like his music and trust him a lot.

I just want to say Thank you to everyone that worked so hard and fought to keep Bethesda open. Bethesda may be closed but a;ways in our hearts.

Bieber just did a concert at an elementary school that has many homeless and disadvantaged children, then he donated $100,000 to the school. He also donated (with the help of Hasbro) another $100,000 worth of toys for these kids.

He is actually a pretty philanthropic kid. His mom raised him well and has taught him how to give back. It’s a shame the Salvation Army tried to make people believe the unfortunate closing of the Bethseda shelter was his fault.
