Jussie Smollett and Yazz The Greatest (Bryshere Y. Gray) performed a new song called “Never Let It Die” on “American Idol” on Thursday. Watch below!

Smollett and Yazz’s performance was only announced on Wednesday, with the FOX music competition’s official Twitter account breaking the news. Previously, season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert was the only scheduled performer. This now marked the actor-singers’ second time performing on the “Idol” stage.

Almost exactly a year ago, the singers performed “No Apologies,” one of the breakout songs from the first season of “Empire.” They went on to sing the track and others, such as “You’re So Beautiful,” on “Good Morning America,” as well at the Billboard Music Awards, BET Awards, and Teen Choice Awards.

This latest performance comes less than two weeks before “Empire” returns for the second half of its second season. Smollett has been on a press tour all week, with appearances on “The Nightly Show” on Tuesday, “Live With Kelly And Michael” on Wednesday morning, and “The Late Show” on Wednesday night. After the taping with Stephen Colbert, the star jetted out of New York, tweeting, “See you soon Cali. Coming home 4 @AmericanIdol.”
