Junior Seau Dead in Apparent Suicide

Seau’s family arrived on the scene around noon, and were absolutely distraught. His mom, Louisa, between sobs said, “Show your love to my son,” and rhetorically asked God to “take me” instead of her son.

His sister, Annette, asked the media to “honor his last day and give us some kind of peace and privacy.”

Close to 250 friends, family members, and fans have gathered around Seau’s home in a prayer vigil.

Junior Seau is dead.

His death was confirmed by the Oceanside, California police.

He was 43.

The police said the former NFL star died in an apparent suicide via a self-inflicted gunshot to the chest.

Cops responded to a 911 call placed around 9:35 a.m. PT by his girlfriend.

Paramedics tried to revive Seau, but were unable to resuscitate him.

The police said they are still investigating the death, and noted they found a handgun by the body.

In 2010, Seau drove his Cadillac SUV off a cliff in California, but later said it was not a suicide attempt, and that he fell asleep at the wheel.

That incident occurred the hours after his arrest on suspicion of domestic violence against a 25-year-old girlfriend.

Seau leaves behind three children, to whom he reportedly sent text messages expressing his love on Tuesday, according to TMZ.

    His mother’s interview was heartbreaking. If it’s true that he committed suicide, I wish he would have thought of what this would do her before he took his life. Suicide is a selfish act.

    Suicide is indeed a selfish act. If he truly loved his mother and his children he would have thought long and hard about how their lives will be changed forever. Then again, anyone who is in so much pain that they want to leave this world doesn’t really think past the next minute.
