Julianne Hough Talks Ryan Seacrest Relationship: “There Was Nothing Right”
Julianne Hough opens up in in a new interview about what went wrong in her failed relationship with Ryan Seacrest and how things are different with current boyfriend, hockey player Brooks Laich.
Hough and Seacrest broke up in 2013 after more than two years of dating, and the dancer partially blames herself for being guarded with her emotions.
“Every relationship, there was nothing wrong or bad, but there was nothing right,” she tells the August issue of Redbook. “I had one foot out because I didn’t want to get hurt. And I didn’t say what was on my mind because I didn’t want to ruffle any feathers.”
Hough notes, “I needed to be perfect. But now I’m not holding anything back, because I’d rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love.”
“If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?” she says of her time with Seacrest.
The former “Dancing With the Stars” pro says she realized she was ready to date again after attending a retreat in November 2013.
“I had this epiphany when my family went to a six-day seminar about creating your own destiny. I was not into it at first,” explains Hough, “but I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn’t work that by the end I was on a high.”
The actress adds that she was “seeing a couple people” at the time, but she broke things off because the relationships were “going nowhere.”
“The next day my Curve costar introduced [Brooks and me],” says Hough. “It couldn’t have been a better time. We’ve been open and honest from day one.”
