Julia Roberts To Star In Batkid Movie
Julia Roberts will produce and star in a movie about Batkid, the five-year-old leukemia patient whose dream of becoming a Batman sidekick was fulfilled when the city of San Francisco turned itself into Gotham for a day in 2013. Roberts is set to adapt a feature from the documentary Batkid Begins, which is premiering this week at the Slamdance festival.
Miles Scott became a sensation on November 15, 2013, when his staged heroics across San Francisco were facilitated by tens of thousands of volunteers and followed by millions on social media. President Obama and San Francisco’s mayor Ed Lee participated in the elaborate Make-a-Wish event, as did businesses and public servants throughout the city. Scott got to go on an adventure in which he battled villains like the Riddler and the Penguin, ultimately saving the day.
“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do,” said Dana Nachman, the director of Batkid Begins.
