Joy Behar has slammed Elisabeth Hasselbeck for her “below-the-belt” remarks about Rosie O’Donnell and her expected return to “The View.”

The comedian spoke with CNN’s Don Lemon on Wednesday, after Hasselbeck had called into “Fox & Friends” to voice her displeasure with O’Donnell rejoining “The View,” calling her former colleague “the very woman who’s spit in the face of our military, [and] spit in the face of her own network.”

“I would like Elisabeth to explain herself, really,” Behar told Lemon. “What does she mean by that? And isn’t it kind of a nasty thing to say about somebody who is basically a good person?”

Behar noted that O’Donnell’s son is in military school.

“Her son is at The Citadel [The Military College of South Carolina]. What more does Elisabeth want?” she asked.

When Lemon noted that Hasselbeck and O’Donnell had “beef,” Behar said, “I know, but to say she spits in the face of the military? That’s a dangerous thing to say about somebody.”

She added, “It’s a hate-filled remark, and she should explain it.”
