Josh Hartnett: Dating Co-Stars Will Make You “A Lot of Enemies”
Josh Hartnett opens up about dating famous women and a “fascist” ex-girlfriend in the May issue of Elle. Despite being linked to Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Amanda Seyfried, and current girlfriend Tamsin Egerton, Hartnett doesn’t think dating co-stars is a good idea.
“I don’t recommend it to young actors. You can make a lot of enemies in the business that way,” he laughingly tells the magazine. “But when you work with somebody every day, it’s like trial dating. You develop a fantasy about them. It doesn’t always work out,” adds Hartnett.
The “Penny Dreadful” star also says he’s learned not to complain to his friends about the super famous women he’s seeing. “They want to hear all about what you’re doing. But they don’t want to hear any complaints,” he says.
“Back when I dated a few very beautiful, very famous girls, I said something once — it wasn’t really a complaint — and my buddy said, ‘Oh my God, my diamond shoes are too tight.’ He coined the phrase,” recalls the actor.
Hartnett admits he’s a “difficult boyfriend,” telling the magazine that he once broke up with a woman because of her “unbelievable” ideas on immigration. “Very charming girl, but she’s a fascist,” he says without naming names. What do you think of Harnett’s comments?
