Josh Duhamel: I’m NOT Joining “Grey’s Anatomy”
Josh Duhamel is NOT joining “Grey’s Anatomy,” despite an online rumor.
On Thursday, the website Soap Shows announced, “Dr. McHottie: ‘AMC’ Alum Josh Duhamel to ‘Grey’s Anatomy.'” The accompanying article stated, “There’s been a void at Grey-Sloane Memorial Hospital since Dr. McDreamy, aka Derrick Shepherd, went off to the great beyond last year. ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ has still not recovered from the devastating and shocking character death that spelled the end of Patrick Dempsey’s run on the nighttime sudser. However, a new doc is set to arrive in Seattle in the form of ‘All My Children’ vet Josh Duhamel.”
“While there’s no word on who Duhamel will play, he’s slated to appear on the series this winter in a role that can become more than just a guest star appearance,” the story went on to claim. As proof of the supposed casting, Soap Shows linked to TVLine.com, a reputable site for television news. Except TVLine’s feature, which was from way back in May, was about wishful cast additions, stars whom the site’s reporters would like to see on the show, not actual or official cast changes. It’s even called a “gallery of suggestions.”
Despite the blatant mistake, Duhamel’s alleged casting began circulating on social media as factual news. That forced the actor to set the record straight on Friday. “Don’t know where this came from, but I’m not doing ‘Grey’s Anatomy.’ Much respect for the show, but not true,” he tweeted.
One fan even posted, “@joshduhamel @GreysABC I just read that josh is going to be appearing on #GreysAnatomy I sure hope this is true!!!” Duhamel replied with a simple “not true.” To another who wrote, “@joshduhamel I’m gonna die if you’re going to be on Grey’s Anatomy. So proud of you,” the star responded, “I’m happy to report, you will continue living. ;).”
And though the claim was picked up by other sites ranging from SoapCentral to Design & Trend, fans will have to accept there is no McHottie just yet.
