Jon Stewart Hosting USO Comedy Show With David Letterman And Judd Apatow
Jon Stewart will host a USO comedy show for 1,500 soldiers and their families at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on May 5, it was announced on Thursday.
The event will also include comedic performances by David Letterman and Judd Apatow. President Barack Obama is expected to attend. The show is being held in honor of Military Appreciation Month, as well as to mark the 75th anniversary of the USO.
It’s also one of several events celebrating the fifth anniversary of Joining Forces, an initiative launched by Michelle Obama and Jill Biden to support active military members, veterans and their families. Both women are also slated to attend the USO ceremony, along with Vice President Joe Biden. To promote Joining Forces, the First Lady and Jill Biden are also set to appear together on Monday’s “The Voice,” while the First Lady will have a guest spot on Tuesday’s episode of “NCIS,” too.
Stewart, an outspoken supporter of American troops, co-emceed a USO event in Arlington, Virginia earlier this month. The former “Daily Show” host was on hand at the awards dinner to help honor organizations dedicated to making significant contributions to the U.S. Armed Forces. As for Letterman, the upcoming USO comedy show will mark a rare public appearance by the former talk show host since retiring from the “Late Show” last year.
