Jon Hamm and girlfriend Jennifer Westfeldt were robbed earlier this month in London, his rep confirms to Gossip Cop.

The couple was dining at a restaurant in England’s capital when someone took her purse, and then used the hotel key inside to rob their room.

They reported the theft to the police.

Westfeldt told Life & Style, which was the first outlet to report the news, the case is still “under investigation.”

That sucks! Hotels think they’re doing a good thing by not printing room numbers on hotel key cards, but any thief with half a brain can stick the card in a million doors until they find the right one (because the hotel’s name is on the card).

I’d check to see if this is an inside job. A random thief takes her key card and, if the room number is not marked, gets lucky very quickly and hit their room. The thief had to know ahead of time what was their room number.

A couple weekend ago my husband and I checked into a hotel and I didn’t know until we checked out that he was carrying the key around in the little pouch thing that they gave us with the room number on it. Not smart, husband.

This may have been what happened here. Or, like someone already said, it was an inside job. Hotel personnel aren’t supposed to give out guests information, but I’m sure someone would do it for a cut of the loot.

I’d be looking at the restaurant wait staff. This is a common scam. Refilling the water, purse is by the chair, nudge it over, drop a towel on it, pick it up, take it to the pantry, remove any valuables, copy the credit card numbers, take the room key, any cash/traveler’s checks, etc. Return the purse, pass everything off to a partner. By the time you call it a night, they’ve rolled you over and over and over. If I were them, I’d cancel the cards, everything. I never carry a purse when I travel and I store extra traveler’s checks, jewelry, in the hotel vault. You can buy nice, flat little vestie things you can wear around your waist under your shirt which will hold your cash, keys, passport, etc. over your tummy so they can’t be got to. BTW, DO NOT leave ANY valuables of ANY kind in your luggage in your hotel room. USE the hotel vault.
