Jon Hamm Slams Kim Kardashian Again: “Don’t Really Understand the Appeal”

The war of words between Jon Hamm and Kim Kardashian has not died down.

In a recent interview with Elle UK, the “Mad Men” star referred to Kardashian as a “f**king idiot,” noting, “Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated. Being a f**king idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly.”

Kardashian then shot back on Twitter, “Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, ‘stupid,’ is in my opinion careless.”

On Monday morning, while promoting the new season of his hit show, Hamm was asked by Matt Lauer on the “Today Show” whether he stood by his comments, and Hamm replied, “I don’t think they were careless. I think they were accurate.”

Sticking to his guns, Hamm fired, “It’s a part of our culture that I certainly don’t identify with, and I don’t really understand the appeal of it other than in a sort of car crash sensibility. And it’s not something that I partake in or enjoy, but it is what is and here we are.”

Then Lauer asked if any of the other cast members of “Mad Men” felt that way as well.

Vincent Kartheiser jumped in and said, “Our society enjoys to turn on the television and see someone who’s maybe awful and they can say, ‘Well at least I’m not as terrible as that person.’”

Hamm ended the discussion by offering, “There are a lot of channels on the dials and those channels need to be filled up with things… It’s different strokes for different folks.”

Check out the video below, and tell us what you think of Hamm’s latest salvo.

The exchange begins at the 7:00 mark.

I don,t understand it. She is in the news everyday.

  • MyKinKStar

Matt is obviously trying to be relevant, to get a sound bite that travels the media with him in it for a few days, or else he would have have asked Jon about something he has already claimed and owned as his own opinion. I don’t get the appeal either and don’t watch, but as he says ‘it is what is and here we are.’

  • cheese

    He’s right. Go Jon!

  • Cheryl

    Way to go, Jon!!

  • http://twitter.com/DrivelLady Laurie B.

Jon Hamm struggled for success in acting for many years. He didn’t use a sex tape to gain notoriety. Old fashioned concept for Kim to wrap her brain around.

  • Babybop728

I don’t care how “right” he is. He shouldn’t be trash talking people!

  • Regina1180

Im glad that he’s sticking behind the comments.

  • Jerry

They are all in the same business. He might be right about her but should keep his comments to himself.

  • Sheelly

If you put yourself in the public eye, you’ve got to expect the criticism. Kim likes to portray herself as some savvy business woman, but she’s nothing more than a brain dead slut with a smart mom shrewd enough to turn her daughter’s overexposure (literally) into a successful reality empire.

  • Cheryl

Not only that, he’s educated (alum of Mizzou) and taught for years while trying/waiting to get his big break. Jon rocks (but I’ve never been a fan of Mad Man – love all his comedic turns…he’s got great timing)!

  • Anonymous

How are they in the same business? Jon is an actor that does legitimate movies/tv. Kim and Klan are ‘reality’ show train wreaks that do things just so they stay in the public eye. So while they are both Hollywood they are two totally different spectrums.

  • Kim123

Hey Kim is an actress she was in Disaster Movie, Tyler Perry and she acted in that sex tape. LOL

  • Regina1180

But if he was praising her and the like, would it be ok?

  • Regina1180

    Hhahhahhahhhahhhahha

  • Brenda

My thoughts exactly, could not have said it better myself. Being the mom of two grown daughters, I cannot understand Kris justifies being a pimp for her own children.(Other than the money of course). This whole thing is just creepy. If these were not consenting adults, she would be in jail but instead she makes millions off selling their bodies and striping them of any remaining dignity they may have had. I feel sorry for them when nobody cares about them anymore and the money is gone. What then Mommy Dearest?

  • Leslie

Why should he keep his comments to himself? Free speech not permitted any more … but making a sex tape and selling it for millions is to be praised and she falls into the category of a successful business woman? Not in the category I would like to be part of! She will always be remembered for that for the rest of her life. High price to pay no matter how much money she has in the bank.

I dont get the appeal of either, Hamm is spot on. Maybe her fans are really, really into sex tapes, fat injected butts and golden showers.

  • Jennifer

I’m not a particular fan of Kardashians or Hilton. You’d have to tie me to the chair and tape my eyes open to get me to watch either, but… John Ham has gone down quite a few points in my estimation. For starters, one celeb bashing another when they all know how difficult life can be in the public eye no matter who you are is, jmho, extremely poor taste. Very declasse. Secondly, a man – any man – speaking about a woman in that way (fucking idiot – really?) is so rude and so crass and ungentlemanly, it offends me. What ever happened to chivalry and good manners? Whatever happened to “if you can’t say something nice…”? He is an older man, certainly much older than Ms. Kardashian. He should be mature enough to know better. For some reason, it seems to rankle him that she and her family have been successful at promoting themselves and their business lines. They are well-liked by their fans. There is nothing wrong with being successful. I’m surprised at Hamm. He should apologize to her and drop it. He’s the one looking bad and worse in all this. Petty and silly. Grown men shouldn’t call attention to themselves by picking on young women without provocation. He doesn’t even know her.

  • Regina1180

I think you single handedly set the women’s lib movement back about 100 years.

  • CTgirl

Jon Hamm was commenting on what reality stars are successful at, which is essentially nothing. I applaud his honesty and the fact that he didn’t backdown when questioned about his comments. The fact that people like the Kardashians are “well like by their fans” is irrelevant to this discussion. I can’t believe that you completely missed the point of his comments.

Reality TV is idiot TV. Face the facts. It’s cheap and meaningless.

  • http://twitter.com/jen_pennybug Anne

I agree w/him! I wish people like the Kardashians & those from The Jersey Shore would go away forever.

  • Chloe

I agree with you. I may not agree with some of the things that Kim has done but she certainly is not the worst that is out there. I think since there have been recent events i.e. the divorce and her shows she is what is foremost on the minds of many people. However, I would be more inclined to agree with Jon if he reference the Jersey Shore peeps. At least Kim and her family are not falling down drunk in public, and getting arrested and sleeping with someone different on every show…hen brag about it the next day. But, Jon needs to let this go and not comment on it, even when he continues to be asked because it really makes him look bad. He is a serious actor that should not continue to comment on this issue.

  • pests

He is the idiot. Putting someone down to make himself not feel like one. Also working on his PR. She must not be an idiot to him if he is using her name for promotion. .

  • Anonymous

Who’s the real idiot, people who make major bucks doing nothing,or people who fawn and drool over these people who make money doing nothing? I’d go for the latter.

  • http://twitter.com/diaritoch Dia Ritoch

That is Jon Hamm’s opinion. I’m just glad that he actually speaks publicly about it. I would be amazed however if, in some twisted, unparalleled universe, he would end up with Kim Kardashian in the end :)

  • Femmefatal007

Hamm is so fuc-king right! I applaude him for having big balls and to say what needed to be said about those kardashian trash! If you don’t like his opinion you must be trash and a fan of trashy shows. I my self never watch those trashy shows and never will. My brain power need to be more informed on educated stuff and my educational channel are the best channels on tv to me. Yes I might be a nerd but guess what? Having a lot of brain power will take me along way in life while those trashy idiots only have money and no brain! Wonder if any of you know what quantum physic is? And majority of you illiterate fucks don’t. So keep wasting your time watching trash on your tv screens and good riddance!

  • LV Renee

garbage in, garbage out…Thank you Jon, for exposing the Kardashian garbage for what it is. Let’s get some female role models not famous for porn or being filmed doing nothing for a “reality” show.

  • http://twitter.com/daiyadarko Daiya Darko

Herp derp. He doesn’t need any PR help and he didn’t put someone else down. He only used those names as an example for making his point. He put down an overall idea, and Kim’s feathers got ruffled because the legitimacy of her existence was questioned.
