Johnny Manziel Checks Into Rehab
Johnny Manziel has entered rehab. The Cleveland Browns quarterback entered treatment last Wednesday, the team confirmed on Monday.
The former Heisman Trophy winner’s advisor Brad Beckworth says in a statement, “Johnny knows there are areas in which he needs to improve in order to be a better family member, friend and teammate and he thought the offseason was the right time to take this step. On behalf of Johnny and his family, we’re asking for privacy until he rejoins the team in Cleveland.”
While the statement doesn’t explicitly give a reason for Manziel’s treatment, the onetime Texas A&M star is infamous for his prolific partying, a habit that led to distractions and controversy during his disappointing first year in the NFL. The Browns drafted Manziel in the first round of the 2014 draft, but the college star sat on the bench for most of the season and played terribly when he was given a starting opportunity late in the year.
Rumors of alcohol abuse followed Manziel during college and throughout his tumultuous transition into the NFL. It has not been disclosed where Manziel is getting treatment, or how long his rehab is expected to take. The Browns have not announced additional details about the situation as of now. Gossip Cop will have updates.
