The rumor flying today like pigeons over Piazza San Marco in Venice is that Johnny Depp dropped major dough for a home in the picturesque Italian city.

“Depp paid $13.4 million on a house in Venice after falling in love with the city during filming ‘The Tourist’ with Angelina Jolie last year,” writes Starpulse, which, like other outlets, picked up a story from the local paper La Nuova Venezia.

According to Starpulse, Depp “outbid an Arab prince for the empty building, which is situated in the Santa Croce area of Venice and is one of the only available homes overlooking the famous Grand Canal.”

But much like the ground in Piazza San Marco, this story is full of crap.

A rep for Depp tells Gossip Cop that reports of the star buying a home in Venice are “not true.”
