Did Johnny Depp really demand that Disneyland staffers only address him as his Pirates of the Caribbean character, Captain Jack Sparrow, when he visited the theme park last month? That’s the claim being made in one of the new tabloids, but Gossip Cop has the exclusive truth.

The actor surprised fans at Disneyland in April by popping up on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in full costume to promote the latest film in the franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales. But Star is now reporting that Depp became infuriated with anyone at the park who called him by his real name. “He either lost it with staff who addressed him as Johnny, or just simply ignored them,” a supposed “insider” tells the magazine.

The outlet’s questionable source goes on to purport that Depp was a “nightmare the entire time” he visited the theme park, and even got annoyed at the guests. “He was cursing under his breath and getting really agitated when fans were shouting ‘Johnny!’ from the boats,” adds the seemingly phony insider.

But Gossip Cop looked into the tabloid’s story, and a trustworthy source close to the situation assures us it’s “not true.” Depp is indeed a method actor who’s been known to stay in character while shooting films, but the tabloid’s assertion that he refused to be himself at Disneyland is fabricated. The magazine’s additional claim that the actor got nasty with people who didn’t address him as Captain Jack is also ridiculous.

In fact, this isn’t the first bogus report surrounding the actor’s new Pirates of the Caribbean movie that Gossip Cop has debunked. We recently busted Star’s sister publication, OK!, for its provably untrue claim that Depp is refusing to do interviews for the sequel. Additionally, Gossip Cop previously corrected Star’s phony story about Depp getting a plastic surgery “divorce makeover.” This latest article about the actor is equally fabricated.
