John Legend sang “America the Beautiful” at the 2015 Super Bowl on Sunday. Watch the video below!
The star performed at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona in the minutes before the Super Bowl XLIX kickoff, where the New England Patriots would face the reigning champions, the Seattle Seahawks. Legend followed last year’s “America the Beautiful” performer, Queen Latifah. Other past singers include Jennifer Hudson, Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, and Lea Michele.
Legend’s Super Bowl festivities actually began on Saturday, when he attended the DIRECTV “Super Saturday Night” party with wife Chrissy Teigen. Joined by Kim Kardashian, the couple watched Rihanna perform with surprise guest Kanye West. Ater the show, Legend and Teigen joined West and Kardashian for a “double date” at a local Waffle House.
Legend is currently riding a major career high. As Gossip Cop reported, he and Common won Best Original Song at the Golden Globes last month for “Glory,” their track from Selma. The duo are also nominated for an Oscar, and will perform the song during the Academy Awards later this month. Before that, though, they will take the stage for a performance at next weekend’s Grammys, where Legend is nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance for a live trendition of “All Of Me.”
