John Legend has joined ABC’s new singing competition “Duets” in place of Lionel Richie, who has exited the show.

A rep for Richie tells us he left the show due to personal scheduling conflicts.

In a network release to Gossip Cop on Monday, Legend says, “I’m thrilled to be part of ‘Duets’ and I’m looking forward to finding an undiscovered gem out there. This is going be a lot of fun.”

He joins Kelly Clarkson, Robin Thicke and Jennifer Nettles on the mentors panel.

Each mentor will pick two contestants, and each week, the celebrity singer and one of his or her protégés will duet for a live audience.

At the conclusion of the competition, the winning amateur singer will get a recording contract with Hollywood Records.

“Duets” premieres on Thursday, May 24.

Half the controversies in the world are verbal ones; and could they be brought to a plain issue they would be brought to a prompt termination.

Sounds like “The Voice” to me. No originality in these shows anymore.

I don’t think it’s anything like The Voice, especially if they’re going to be competing while singing with their mentors. While The Voice features performances with the mentors, it doesn’t affect their place in the competition.
