John Cusack Slams President Obama: He’s “Worse Than Bush”
John Cusack slammed President Obama in an interview on Thursday, saying his administration’s policies about “drones, the American Empire, the NSA, civil liberties, attacks on journalism and whistleblowers” are “as bad or worse than [George] Bush.” The actor added that he didn’t think Dick Cheney or Richard Nixon would agree with Obama that the president he has the right to “unilaterally decide whom he can kill around the world.”
Cusack’s comments came during a Q&A with the Daily Beast while he was promoting his new film Love & Mercy. When the interviewer observed that Cusack is often outspoken about current events, whereas others actors tend to skirt controversial subjects, he said, “No, I don’t care about any of that sh*t. All those people are just full of hot air and networking and stuff.”
Cusack further said that Obama had “extended and hardened the cement on a lot of Bush’s post-9/11 Terror, Inc. policies, so he’s very similar to Bush in every way that way.” The actor added, “Since 9/11 there are magic words like ‘terror,’ and if you use magic words, you can justify any power grab you want.”
Cusack has previously disagreed with Obama’s policies. He vocally criticized the president over his record on foreign policy and civil liberties in a 2012 article for a progressive news site called Truthout. What do you think of John Cusack’s latest comments blasting President Obama?
