John Boyega ‘Black Panther’ Casting Rumor NOT True
John Boyega is NOT joining the cast of Marvel’s Black Panther, despite an inaccurate report that was wrongly circulated by a number of other online outlets. Gossip Cop can help debunk this rumor.
According to Heroic Hollywood, the Star Wars: Force Awakens star is in talks for a role in the upcoming superhero movie starring Chadwick Boseman in the title role, Lupita Nyong’o as the female lead, and Michael B. Jordan as the villain. The website writes, “Hot, unconfirmed scuttlebutt is telling me… John Boyega may be meeting for [Black Panther] as well.”
However, shortly after the story was published and widely re-reported by other sites, Boyega’s agent, Femi Oguns, tweeted, “My client @JohnBoyega will not be starring in Black Panther.” The rumor was reportedly also fueled after Boyega posted a Snapchat earlier this week about a “meeting” he was attending, and shortly thereafter, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige began following the actor on Twitter. It’s unknown whether or not the actor actually met with Marvel, but regardless, he simply hasn’t been cast in Black Panther.
Presumably, the actor will be quite busy with the Star Wars sequels instead, and he can also next be seen co-starring alongside Tom Hanks and Emma Watson in sci-fi thriller The Circle. Meanwhile, Black Panther is slated to begin filming in January 2017, and hit theaters February 16, 2018.
