Joey Chestnut Wins 2016 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, Breaks Record With 70
Joey Chestnut not only won the 2016 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest on Monday, July 4th, but he also broke the record for the most hot dogs consumed in 10 minutes. Check out the video below!
The competitive eater scarfed down 70 hot dogs. That’s now the new world record. Chestnut had previously set the record with 69 back in 2013. And in addition to setting a new record this year, he also gave opponent Matt Stonie a taste of revenge.
As Gossip Cop reported, Stonie beat Chestnut last year, with 62 hot dogs compared to 60. So this time around, which marked the competition’s 100th year, Chestnut had a chance for redemption. He ended up achieving that and then some.
Chestnut’s victory sparked some interesting reactions on Twitter. NBC News reporter David Mazza remarked, “70!!! Gross, and amazing! :).” @BrandonEsWolf joked, “*receives the bill after eating 70 Nathan’s hot dogs* Joey Chestnut: ‘Worth it.'” And @JoeThaG11 quipped, “Today is a great day for Joeys everywhere #Nathans.”
“Who would’ve ever thought a human could eat 70 #hotdogs in 10 minutes. #4thofjuly #Merica #GodBlessAmerica #Nathans,” said @kkozlen. @renowned tweeted, “‘He is America itself’ – i mean the Nathan’s eating contest announcer isn’t ENTIRELY wrong…” @FarmerLarmer also wrote, “The Nathan’s hot dog eating contest is the most American thing to ever happen and I will never miss it #ChestnutEats70.”
Stonie ended up eating a stunning 17 fewer hot dogs than Chestnut. Watch how it all went down below!
