Joaquin Phoenix Admits He Made Up Engagement — WATCH VIDEO!
UPDATE: Joaquin Phoenix revealed on Tuesday morning that he is NOT actually engaged, one day after announcing an engagement to a yoga teacher on “Late Show with David Letterman.” The actor, who has pulled stunts on the public and media before, explained on “Good Morning America” that he just wanted to capture the audience’s attention. “My life’s so boring and so it seemed like something exciting to talk about,” said the star. “I want the audience to like me, and they really like people who are getting married.”
And later, on “Live! with Kelly and Michael,” Phoenix denied that he had “pranked” Letterman, claiming that the late-night host was aware he was joking, even if everyone else was not. He also went on to joke that he’s engaged to former co-star Reese Witherspoon. The actor’s rep notes the star has always had an “extraordinary and spontaneous sense of humor.” Well then.
Joaquin Phoenix is engaged! The actor announced that he plans to wed on Monday’s “Late Show with David Letterman,” sharing an amusing tale about his bride-to-be. Watch the video below!
The lucky woman is yoga instructor, and she and Phoenix first met at a class where she taught him “the harnessing of the hog” position. Letterman was in disbelief that that was an actual move, and the Oscar nominee left his seat to demonstrate. “I don’t know if you can see this, but it’s a compromising and vulnerable position,” quipped Phoenix as lay on the studio floor. The movie star explained explain how his fiancée put a strap around him and pulled him up, “so my Julio Iglesias is up next to her goulash, and she’s thrusting, she’s pulling, she’s thrusting me in!” Phoenix learned he was experiencing “emotional back pain,” and went on to tell a shocked Letterman, “This is the crazy part of the story: We started dating. And I think she’s the one. I proposed to her and she said yes.”
Phoenix said he didn’t know what their introduction said about him (but “probably nothing good”), and then nearly choked on his drink when Letterman asked what’s going to happen now that his “hog’s been harnessed.” Interestingly, perhaps wanting some privacy, Phoenix did not reveal the name of his beloved.
