Joan Rivers’ Doctor Allegedly Took Selfie, Did Unauthorized Biopsy: Report
Joan Rivers’ doctor allegedly took a selfie while the star was unconscious and then performed an unauthorized biopsy on her before she went into the cardiac arrest that led to her death, according to a shocking new report.
As has been widely reported, Rivers was at Yorkville Endoscopy on August 29 for a scheduled endoscopy with gastroenterologist Dr. Lawrence Cohen to diagnose throat problems.
But CNN — citing what a “staff member” at the center told investigators — says that after that procedure, Rivers’ supposed personal ear, nose and throat doctor — who was not certified by the clinic — performed the biopsy without consent while she was still under anesthesia.
The unidentified physician also allegedly took a selfie with the comedienne, says the news outlet.
CNN’s source further claims that Rivers’ “vocal cords began to swell during the allegedly unauthorized biopsy, cutting off the flow of oxygen to her lungs, which led to cardiac arrest.”
The Yorkville clinic previously denied vocal cord biopsies were ever done at their center.
Cohen, who was the director of the facility, is no longer in his post, or performing procedures there.
Officials continue to investigate, and the clinic declined to comment on the new allegations to CNN.
