Jimmy Kimmel In Playboy: “I Don’t Believe Jay Leno Has Actual Feelings”

(NBC)

Don’t expect Jimmy Kimmel and Jay Leno to exchange Valentines this year.

In a new interview with Playboy, Kimmel once again lays into his fellow late-night talk show host, acknowledging that the “Tonight Show” star is “not just a smart politician but also a smart guy,” but explaining why he’s not shy about slamming him.

“I always feel bad if I hurt anybody’s feelings, but I don’t believe Jay Leno has actual feelings, and he doesn’t seem to be that worried about other people’s feelings,” says Kimmel.

Back in 2010, Kimmel did an entire broadcast while imitating Leno — complete with prosthetics and a wig.

“I can do a pretty good Leno imitation,” says Kimmel. “It was a lot of fun to be him — also much easier, particularly in constructing ‘his’ monologue for that night.”

Shortly thereafter, Kimmel appeared on Leno’s ill-fated 10 p.m. show, where he infamously mocked the host to his face during a satellite interview that Kimmel kept bringing back to Leno’s controversial replacement of Conan O’Brien as “Tonight Show” host.

Kimmel recalls, “That was thrilling — it really was — and also kind of dangerous, because I realized he wanted to communicate to America that it was all just a friendly joke. That was the perception Leno clearly wanted out there.”

“The more I thought about it the madder it made me. I didn’t want him to just get away scot-free with what was happening all over again,” explains Kimmel.

Get away with WHAT?! Conan tried to hijack Jay’s show solely on the basis that Jay had done it enough years and it was his turn. Then Letterman, always a bitter and cynical man, jumped on the bandwagon. Jay never deserved the wrath of any comic, particularly Kimmel, who is just trying to blow his own horn because he is a such an attention whore. Leno continues to rise above this all and succeeds personally and professionally.

For someone that doesn’t like to think about Jay Leno, he sure talks about him a lot. Jealous much jimmy

I don’t understand the hatred. Jay Leno seems like a really nice guy. From what I understand, Conan was given an opportunity to take over a relatively successful talk show. He didn’t do well because the ratings were not that great. NBC probably asked Jay to come back and they probably offered him a substantial raise. I don’t understand why everyone, mainly Jimmy Kimmel, is blaming Jay for this. It’s not his fault that Conan did not do well and NBC decided to boot him. What intelligent person would turn away a job opportunity and lots of money? Jimmy Kimmel needs to get over it.

Love Jimmy Kimmel forever!!! He is so right about Jay Leno…he is an arrogant and cruel man!

I am so sick of this guy whining about Jay Leno. Jimmy Fallon kicks his a** all over the place. Get over it.

Jimmy Kimmel is the funniest and most genuine of all!

All these silly hollywood “feuds” are getting old really fast. What is gained by old this silliness? Just don’t get it. Between this and the brandi woman (and all involved in her feuds) and her constant sniping at others and all the others, the childishness is the only thing that comes through in these self made messes. Grow up already!!

my understanding is that they say Leno, wanted his old time back, and nbc decided they’d push Conan ahead to later, but that would also cut into Jimmy Fallon’s show and the guy after. And Conan didn’t want to lose his time slot maybe because he still had a contract, and had probably waited for years to get the spot. but, nobody except those involved know what really went down. and you can’t blame Conan for being bitter because he got fired, nor can you blame Letterman since he was in competition for the spot with Leno once upon a time. But I agree they really go on about it, I especially don’t understand why Kimmel would care he’s not in competition with Leno not really. although I find Leno isn’t very interesting his interviews are bland.
