Jimmy Fallon To Host Golden Globes 2017: Fans React
Jimmy Fallon will host the 2017 Golden Globes, NBC announced on Tuesday. The news was revealed during the network’s Television Critics’ Association press tour presentation.
Fallon, of course, is currently the host of the highly-rated “The Tonight Show.” He has awards show experience, too. The former “Saturday Night Live” star hosted the Emmys back in 2010. He’s also hosted the MTV Movie Awards twice (2001 and 2005), as well as the MTV Video Music Awards (2002).
Fallon is also a fitting pick since his career has included acting in both television and film. And unlike the Emmys or the Oscars, the Golden Globes celebrate both genres. The comedian is following in the footsteps of Ricky Gervais (2010-2012, 2016) and duo Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (2013-2015).
It’s also an especially big honor as the Golden Globes actually hasn’t had hosts for most of its 70 years. After the announcement, Fallon tweeted, “I’m so excited to be hosting The Golden Globes in January.” He added, “And I’m really looking forward to spending time with the Hollywood Foreign Press before Donald Trump has them all deported.”
The 73rd annual ceremony is slated to take place on January 8, 2017. Gossip Cop, of course, will have full coverage. And fans are already weighing in on Fallon’s appointment as the event’s emcee.
@LeahBale21, a self-described “FalPal,” tweeted, “Congratulations @jimmyfallon for getting the hosting gig for golden globe awards. You’ll be a brilliant host! What’s next…Oscars.” @catheb exclaimed, “Wow!! This is just awesome!” @GallifreyanLock said, “Congratulations to @jimmyfallon for being the next @goldenglobes host!!! Cheers mate…”
With a screegrab of her calendar, @miaajtf shared, “Already got it marked I’m ready. @jimmyfallon @goldenglobes.” @Teenwolfer_DOB warned, “Jimmy Fallon + hosting? Yall better prepare #GoldenGlobes.” And @gigglingfallon even suggested, “@nbc @jimmyfallon you guys should also consider adding @jtimberlake as a co-host!”
Amid all the positive reactions, though, was @realtomcapote, who said, “@bcbeat @goldenglobes @jimmyfallon Oh dear – after Gervais/Fey/Poehler the least predictable awards show about to get glutinously fawning.” But @Anne_Hogan declared, “Jimmy Fallon is hosting the Golden Globes? Okay. I’m down with that. Actually, it should always be hosted by former Weekend Update anchors.”
