Jim Carrey Girlfriend Cathriona White Commits Suicide
Jim Carrey’s girlfriend Cathriona White has committed suicide. She was 28.
A rep for Carrey confirmed the tragedy to Gossip Cop less than two hours after the news was first reported. Carrey released a statement saying he was “shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona.” He has not commented at all via social media.
White was found dead in her home by Los Angeles Police Department officers on Monday night. It is suspected she purposefully overdosed on drugs, as pills were found at the scene, but an autopsy will be conducted to determine her official cause of death. Cops were called when two friends went to White’s house to check on her, and they discovered her unresponsive.
Carrey and White, an Irish makeup artist, had dated on and off over the last several years. They were in a relationship in 2012, and the romance was rekindled earlier this year. But, according to TMZ, White left a suicide note indicating she and Carrey had broken up on September 24, last Thursday. That same day she tweeted, “Signing off Twitter, I hope I have been a light to my nearest and dearest.”
White’s post was accompanied by several emojis, including a heart, next to which she wrote, “to yo all.” Her prior tweet the day before was a W.B. Yeats. quote that read in part, “Faeries, come take me out of this dull world, for I would ride with you upon the wind.” Two weeks ago before that, she posted a meme on Instagram reading, “I sometimes smile and act like nothing is wrong. It’s call dealing with sh*t and staying strong.”
For his part, Carrey last referenced White on Twitter on September 16, sharing a picture she took of him at Grand Central Station. That currently remains his most recent tweet, preceded by a similar photo tweet on September 1 that credits White. Gossip Cop will have updates.
