WATCH: Jim Carrey “Tests” David Letterman For Ebola on Late Show (VIDEO)
Jim Carrey (jokingly) tested David Letterman for Ebola on Tuesday’s “Late Show.” The actor was on the show to promote Dumb and Dumber To, but refused to take part in the interview without taking the host’s temperature first.
Carrey presented Letterman with a thermometer, and with the device in Letterman’s mouth, proceeded to ask some key questions. “Have you traveled abroad lately? Have you ever kissed a monkey or licked an airport toilet seat?” queried the movie star. “Are you now or do you plan to be a member of ISIS?”
Carrey ultimately determined Letterman was not “symptomatic,” but warned him, “Just don’t travel to Jersey, ’cause Chris Crsipy is much more serious about this stuff.” Realizing (his perhaps intentional) gaffe, he added, “Did I say Crispy? Freudian slip!”
For those unaware, New Jersey governor Chris Christie has been criticized in recent days for forcibly quarantining a woman even though she wasn’t suffering from the illness and didn’t appear to have any symptoms. And while Carrey’s bit was no doubt intended to be amusing, and is indeed humorous, Ebola, of course, is no laughing matter. The disease’s death toll has risen to more than 5,000, including Thomas Eric Duncan, who was the first person to die of the virus in the United States.
