Jessica Sanchez Wows American Idol Judges Singing “I Will Always Love You”

The ladies in the Top 13 were tasked with singing Whitney Houston songs on Wednesday’s “American Idol,” but it was Jessica Sanchez who arguably took the night’s biggest risk.

Sanchez chose to sing Houston’s signature ballad, “I Will Always Love You.”

So, how’d she do?

Let’s just say the audience members weren’t the only ones giving Sanchez a standing ovation.

    Boxergal: Jennifer Hudson knew and loved Whitney. When she sang it she was very emotional and I admire the fact she was able to even finish the song. Perhaps the next time a loved one in your family passes away you can sing their favorite song and sound absolutely perfect and unemotional while doing it. Why be so judgmental?

    I agree! That particular song has been done and done to death – sorry, but it’s the truth. Lete it be and move on. ANY other song would have allowed this girl’s voice to truly shine WITHOUT having this cloud of death hanging over her, with everyone waiting to hear IF she could do it LIKE Whitney. What about HER own style? No one cares AS LONG AS she ‘sounds’ like Whitney . . . Shameful AND Boring.

    You missed my point, but I won’t bother explaining it to you. All I heard was someone who sounded like she was trying to hard to reproduce what Whitney did – BORING. This girl can get a job in any bar across this nation, perhaps the world, singing cover songs, where no one cares about about HER style AS LONG AS she sounds like the original singer of the songs – BORING.

    There are two versions of this song. One from Dolly Parton and one from Whitney Houston. There probably were not lot of people ever heard about this song until it was sang by Whitney. It became phenomenal & classic. Why? It’s because how the song was delivered.

    Now, came Jessica Sanchez who sang the song in American Idol of which she would be judged. If you are Jessica, what would you choose? a)To sing the song as flawless as Whitney did where it is familiar and love by million of people? b)To sing the song in your own style that maybe that people may not like it ?

    So what do you think if she has chosen to sing it in her own style? It would be big risk & she cannot gamble her chances on that night. So it was a wise choice from Jessica. She deserved a standing ovation because she nailed it.

    She is still young and still looking for her own style. We don’t create our own style at the age of 16. We imitate one’s style.

    My KinKStar: Wasn’t Jessica supposed to try and “reproduce” Whitney that night? I’m confused…American Idol gives the contestants a list of songs from an artists and they choose a song of that artist to sing. Are they supposed to try and sing it like the original artist or are they allowed to do their own interpretation of the song? IF they need to sing it like the original, then Jessica did a great job of it and it is not “boring”. Come on KinKStar, lighten up. Btw , did I get your point?

I’m sure that if Jessica sang it in her own way, your comment will also be negative as it’s not the same as Whitney’s at all. Would you rather vote your favorite who is not worth being an american idol….oh yeah each one of them is deserving to be an american idol…in our hearts we can consider our favorite to be an american idol but this is a reality show…let’s vote for the one who really can perform consistently ……the best among the bests!     i think jessica nailed it… she’s able to sing the song like whitney’s and she’s done good all these week when singing… but what i personally feel that she lacks is the ability to “tell the song like it is a story”… i hope someone in the musical arena can explain what i’m actually saying… she’s VERY good no doubt but for me it’s sounds technical… it doesn’t sound like she’s singing it like she feels what she’s singing… there’s the lack of “soul”
