Jessica Sanchez Debuts Single, Nails Another Whitney Song on American Idol

VIDEO

(Daily Motion)

Jessica Sanchez set out on Tuesday to prove why she deserves to be the next “American Idol.”

The 16-year-old performed three songs on part one of the season finale: Whitney Houston‘s “I Have Nothing,” “The Prayer” and “Change Nothing.”

“Change Nothing” will be Sanchez’s first single if she wins – though the judges didn’t think the song best suited her style.

They did, however, love her take on Houston’s song, just as they did her rendition of “I Will Always Love You” earlier in the season.

If Sanchez does beat Phillip Phillips on Wednesday, she’ll be the first female “American Idol” since season 6′s Jordin Sparks won in 2007 – and the show’s youngest winner ever.

Unfortunately, she didn’t do well with the original song. She does amazing when she can copy someone else, but she needs to grow a bit and find her own voice.

I completely agree! I am not her biggest fan, even though I think she has a great voice. She has potential, but she never created a nitche for herself. The judges said that the song didn’t fit her style, but honestly–wtf is her style? I never got that throughout the entire season!!! She’s young–she will learn and have an amazing career, should she pin point the direction she wants to go and find a fanbase to support her.

  • Ahmid20

I wonder if Phillip knows another music genres aside from his usual seemingly broken neck style..Sad he doesnt!

  • IsleyRegaldo

A real good singer needs to be very versatile…Among the AI contestants, Jessica’s the most versa….Hope she could make it to the top…I personally believed in you, JESSICA!!!

  • Alegriarose7

I love the song “Change Nothing!” I bought it! Jessica Sanchez has awesome vocals and I love the lyrics to this song!!!

  • Prettynaughty

    ..,no..no…no…
    she is really nice>:)

  • Randomlibra

They should have never forced her to sing that song. It is not her genre, and I hope, like they said on the show, she sticks up for herself and picks music that she feels.

She deserves to be the next “American Idol.

It’s easy to make a Mistake the first time you sing a new song and most American Idol Coronation songs are easily forgotten once the winners first album is released unless they sell enough to go gold or platinum

pRoud to be a Filipino because a she’s only a 16 year old but she’s really good in singing !! ily ..

  • loco

Unfortunately, AI’s last song must have been original, but Phillip Phillip’s song ISN’T! Is that a form of cheating? Poor him, is that the artist that we need, the American Idol? The one who claims a song is his OWN and takes credit for IT? Lame. T’was originally a song made by Greg Holden entitled “HOME” See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSSDxF53rZM

  • Houyean

That’s totally unfair man. Jessica singing original and Phillips not an original? Phillips wouldn’t be able to sing the song Jessica sang as it needs a singer with wide vocal range

  • Bcournoyer

Lee dewyze first single was a U2 song

  • Rsiongco

It was a terrible song lyrically, but she did a good job lyrically.

  • Rsiongco

Correction: She did a good job musically.

  • Hbentonii

we love Jessica’s singing…she expresses so well in her songs..it captivates our emotions…her voice is golden….she is still our winner….we are eagerly waiting for her records to come out….

  • Hbentonii

But, Jessica can sing the hardest songs from great singers with unbelievable blending of voices from real great singers & still has a unique mark of her own….you think Phillip can do that………for us, his singing voice is trashy & very dull with no life at all….he is trying to overcome it with a cuty face expressions which still are bad & looking painful….

  • Knoxart35

you think that we like Phillip singing?…..NO….his voice way below standard, with bad facial expressions, very unreal……we think he needs music school…

  • Knoxart35

exactly…..we think that there is already a winner planned before the finals.

  • Enersnorkel

philip is changing the tune of the songs he is singing so he can reach it. or else his face will always be distorted. this is a talent search. the judges misguided the audience. so biased. the real test was to let philiip sing jessica’s songs and let jessica sing philip’s. let’s see who will win. that should have been the real test!!!!

and you think PP won’t copy his song HOME?Greg Holden did a live concert here in Germany and he sung that song HOME…..and he did it much better than PP without those drummers and background singers!Jessica was being sabotage by giving that piece of song!PEACE AMERICA.!!!…the finalist should sing same coronation song!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1291855027 Riza Laurejas Mosot-Hoppermann

they planned it already to made PP the winner……they should sing same coronation song, and why changing the rules?

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1291855027 Riza Laurejas Mosot-Hoppermann

what do you mean by fanbase????……..the whole world support jessica!!

  • golddigger99

    Honestly–I think you need a hearing aid….just saying…

  • golddigger99

I would really like to see that. I honestly still believe though, based on the fact that Phillip has his own style and originality, that he would win that competition. Jessica doesn’t seem to know how to steer a song into a direction that’s best fit to suit her voice, although given time, I’m sure she would be able to pull it off. Phillip on the other hand, can sing the, as Randy put it, phone book, and make it sound amazing without him loosing his originality. And his ‘face distortions’ you speak of, are because of his soulfullness and style. Now you’re just being silly…

  • golddigger99

I think you’re wrong, because if you were right, she would’ve won American Idol. Check your facts sweetheart! And…just for the record, I never said I wasn’t a fan, just said I wasn’t her biggest fan.

  • annalyn

listen to Jessica’s studio version of this song…beautiful, way more amazing than her live performance, maybe bcoz the finale version was shortened.

  • Shyla

she’s got a wide fan base. She’s gifted & @ some point Real &True Talent prevails. Give her time, her studioo version of her potential winning song is beyond amazing. Whatever direction she may opt to take , she will do very well, she got what it takes tp get far.

  • aneetha

am sorry but I gotta say he clearly had to make changes whenever he couldn’t hit the high notes. If that’s originality, then let it be.I don’t dislike him, in fact I kinda feel bad for him. He seems to be a nice guy so I wish him the best of luck.” Home”. I agree is a perfect fit for him, it’s not his original song but the big arrangements & production did help a great deal.Am a huge Jessica fan but am conffident she’ll do extremely well, she’s insanely talented.Jessica’s Change Nothing / studio version is perfection

  • lana

I agree, it looked so manipulated. It’s a given, the songs can make them or break them. And we all know how Jessica’s song didn’t go well w/ the judges. It’s only been a week since the finale, already Jessica’s studio version have come out far far better than her live rendition.Download it from itunes to support her.Bought her album & her single from itunes, she sings beautifully!

  • Guest

PP was handed a good song -DUHH!! He even said that it’s not his type of song! OMG..why am I even replying to this..

  • Guest

It’s all about the song material they are given. They don’t have a say in the matter. PP said AI gave him that song and he have no choice! The few song selection they gave to Jessica ware even worst! and then U blame her for singing a bad song? Are You MENTAL?

  • ticamora

She’s very original if you watch her What Ya Want original and her cover of David Choi’s “Heart.” With an open mind if you viewed it, you would know you are looking at the real jessica and not some copycat. In addition she can’t be compared to any of the divas singing billy joel’s, Everybody Has a Dream. She made that song more recognizable by people who didn’t even know the song existed. Read the reviews. The judges know damn well what her style is and they totally avoided giving her something that would showcase her voice. They knew POP wasn’t her forte. Despite that, Change Nothing was still way underrated by the judges. They emphasized that they didnt like the song, the song, the song,. despite the fact that she sung it well. Well they made themselves look like asses because it just made their mentoring, judgement and criticisms look unprofessional.

  • HappyListener50

I liked Jessica’s song “Change Nothing”. Those judges were wrong. It was obvious to me. I knew what they were doing. Even before the final voting, they had already chosen Phillip. Last 2 weeks they were sabotaging Jessica. Giving her a Mariah Carey song!. Only Mariah Carey can do Mariah Carey. Her songs are crazy hard. Then JLo acts surprised?!. Oh then Fuller gives Jessica another Whitney Houston song to sing, too many already. Then Iovine giving her “I’ll Be There”?!. Come on!. The writing was on the wall. To top it all off, they teamed her for “Change Nothing”, which it turns out, is a good song. It displays Jessica’s voice beautifully. Love Jessica.

  • Mary

love it too, and agree with you happylistener50. every time they tried to make her mess up a song. she didn’t. Sounds like a singer and a winner to me!

  • Jana45

I can’t stop listening to it. Everyone that love this song, please request your listenting radio station to play it. My opinion, with no disrepect to Miss Taylor Switf, but if she and Justin beber were given a chance to be heard on the radio, Miss Sanchez should be given a chance too. Especially, since the obvious sabotage AI judges and Jimmy Lovine tried to do when she sung it. It was good then, but is Very Much excellent on the Studio Version. “Change Nothing” will definitively sell if it be heard on the radio.

  • Steph Gutierrez

I think all top three are very good. In the Europe I have only heard of Jessica Sanchez. They are all good for different audiences and different genres of music.
