Move over, Jennifer Hudson!

Jessica Sanchez brought the “American Idol” judges to their feet on Wednesday, with her powerful take on “And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going.”

The Jennifer Holliday song had a resurgence in popularity in 2006 after Hudson sang it in the movie Dreamgirls and won an Oscar for her role.

With Sanchez’s take, the track might make yet another pop culture comeback.

“Move over Jennifer Hudson” Uh no. I get that this chick is good but still, no. :P

  • Rmchristensen

    She’s going to win!!!

  • Gayboy

She sung her heart out.. Incredible performance… Only 16 and she’s probably up their in the top 10 american female vocalists in the United states!! Just to note.. Anyone notice JLo cringe after her performance?? Lets not forget Lopez is a female singer,, with a huge huge ego.. Anyhow to cut a long story short Lopez would prefer it if a male won the show… just saying..

  • Jayz

Look at Lopez face at 3.38 just after Tyler say, “Over the top”.. What a bitch!! Don’t be fooled by her exterior.. She is a cunning, conniving, smug and jealous bitch inside.. Just sayin

  • Mispinky56

    hope you win jessice …

  • Anonymous

That was an amazing performance, she’s truly talented.
But is it me or did anyone notice that it didn’t seem like Jennifer Lopez wanted to give her a standing ovation?

  • Osr

I also don’t understand Jennifer Lopez’s facial reactions to Jessica? Sooo weird…

  • Ham8113

Can’t wait to watch this one. Already, I’m as certain as I was since day one this is gonna be another winner. Go, Jessica!

  • Carmen

Amazing, spectacular performance! Just had to watch it over and over again…if all her upcoming performances are this powerful, she can win easily! Right now it’s between Joshua and Jessica…both are awesome but I would love for Jessica to win so I’m voting like crazy both online and texting!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/K2B7LI3JSKHATUAA6N4IOQP2X4 Estenieta

I voted for Jessica my fingers got sore dialing .Hey i am not like the teenage girls who can vote for Philip thousand times but I pray that jessica will win., if not Joshua.

  • Randomlibra

I cried. She threw her heart and soul on that stage. Amazing. The only way Joshua is going to get me to cry with his nasal shrieking is if he wins. Nice guy, great voice for the kind of music he sings, but if he came on the radio, I would turn it.

  • Carmelaquiapo

but i wish she could’ve moved from one place to another……. :(

  • Juli

    really she’s a good singer??

  • Phillip Cruise

great one, vocal ability is just wow.. although, imo, would have been better if there were lesser growls..

  • Ferjp_88

That’s the point. She’s NOT GOING anywhere (“I’m telling you, I’m not going”). She needed to stay in the same place during the whole song.

  • Erlindaaz

she make me cry, she is telling people that she deserve to be in AI, A M A Z I N G !!!

  • LoveMu5ic_08

she is better than jlo. that’s why jlo is jealous :P

  • alpha

She blew me! What a song and what a voice!

  • LolaDi

I can’t believe a 16 year old gal can learn and sing this particular song so well. It is the most difficult music of this category I have ever heard.

  • Nick

Don’t make assumptions. JLo defended Jessica when Randy mentioned that her “Proud Mary”‘s performance was “Barely OK”. I dont think JLo did that on purpose. Be sweet Gayboy – it will make you more hot and sexy like JLo.

for me Jessica will WIN!!!! were so proud of you!!! A one true great FILIPINO talent!!!! <3

  • Andy

Just like yourself? Takes one to know one?

  • Andy

OK. so far we know Jessica can sing blues, soul and also growl with emotion. She has a ridiculous range and can sing power and can be very mesmerizingly soft. But her dancing sucks.
We also know that Joshua can growl, P2 can play the guitar and Hollie is cute.

  • Mariteqsw

I think her facial expression says that WOW she is amazing. What else can you say?

  • Ronald Deocares

We Filipinos are proud of you Jessica…Hope you’ll visit your hometown, the Philippines…

  • KnowledgeIsPower

I will start with the fact that this is not the type of music that I listen to, nor would I ever buy an album.
I will end with WOW, WOW, WOW!!!
This girl is phenomenal and bound to be a HUGE star.

  • Nemebiax

Maybe Joshua and Jessica will tie

  • Geneva

Yup! that was truly obvious! They stood up but they did, hesitantly (play back the video to see it again). Actions speak louder than words. And, stood they must. For if not, that would be too obvious that from day-1, they (only) want Joshua (see the difference of the way they give him standing ovations! and a few times it was not even warranted for an SO, they still would!)) to win. Also, what message would it send to the public and the MAJORITY who actually understand good, real music? Lol, that would be an embarassment for them to be told, they don’t know how to judge “correctly”.

  • Anonymous

You would know the answer to that if you actually listened/watch the video provided.

  • Geneva

And… that was also to show how good she really was… Imagine, singing a powerful, soulful, emotional song like that, without moving? hard to do that! and that’s what made her rendition truly a-m-a-z-i-n-g!

  • Geneva

But Joshua has NO versatility, and his way of singing’s only 1 style… ala-Patti Labelle, sometimes already annoying. So that’s why he’d only take songs like that, it’s hard to notice he’s already off-key sometimes. He could never do the slow, soft, emotional songs that Jessica did because they’re hard to do…. the flaw would be noticeable if there’s any, and Joshua could not do just as that. Also, he does not sing like a real man, esp love songs, you see a ‘female’ style of singing, even his facial expressions and showmanship. Not so effective esp for love songs (for a woman).

  • ICETEE 21

JOSHUA’S VOICE IS BORING, THE JUDGES ARE A BUNCH OF KISS ASS’ES!!!!

  • VLG

Her rendition of the song by Holliday showcased her vocal competence! Simply amazing for a 16 year old.

  • london w1a

WOW! What a performance , I could not believe a girl of 16 could sing this very difficult song, such a powerful voice, I was completely mesmerize. she will definitely have my vote if we can vote in the UK. she deserve to win!!!

  • Anonymous

I CRIED TOO ! THAT WAS THE BEST PERFORMANCE FROM HER SO FAR !!! MAY GOD BLESS JESS TO THE TOP 3! AND WIN !!!!

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XAOGA4LJ4GDLUVYN7BPX63LBCE Elona

JESSICA HAS AN AMAZING AND POWERFUL VOICE.. JOSHUA JUST LIKE TO SCREAM WHEN HE IS SINGING….GOOD LUCK JESSICA! GOD BLESS!….

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

I can’t agree more. Given that Jessica is young, her vocal range and ability to plumb passion from wherever it is that she gets tt from belie her age. Given Joshue’s experience as a church choir member, he seems to have only one style which, I regret to comment, strikes me as shrill. Which brings me to your opinion that his is a “female” style of singing. Kind of recalls Adam Lambert, whose powerful rock numbers did not seem enough to entice America’s vote. Giving the plum to a subdued, understated yet masculine Kris Allen. I will not bash Joshua for doing a thing that probably he’s been doing since he learned how to sing but will rally behind Jessica for reasons both obvious and patriotic. I’m just sad that we cannot vote from the Philippines.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

I will even venture a fearless forecast that Jessica and Philip will emerge the top two winners, never mind who gets the plum. Failing that, Jessica is already made and being touted as the next Whitney Houston. Philip is a very original talent himself who also screams but does it like a man.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

Jennifer could not have put it any better when she said that the song must’ve ripped Jessica’s soul. And that was exactly what Jessica was feeling during the time she was delivering that dynamite of a performance. It was a strategy to stay put in order for her to concentrate on the song profoundly. And we were amply rewarded by her wise decision. Truly an amazing tour de force for a 16-year-old. Mabuhay!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

    A-M-E-N!

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

Then she would’ve been a clone of both Charice and Hudson. I insist she is an original.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

First off, Andy, Jessica is only 16. I can imagine myself dancing at that age and wouldn’t be surprised if I sucked. Then you say Joshua can grow. I’ve a strong suspicion he already has the headway.

  • nicky

she will win must win she is amazing

  • Surprised AI fan

You really must not get the song or have seen Jennifer Holliday sing it originally- the whole point is the raw emotion, “hence the growls”
Besides that’s the girl’s style just like Steve Tyler screams his songs

  • Reggietc

That made me cry. The emotion was so raw and real.

  • Carmen

We all need to send in the max votes for Jessica…every Wednesday…until the end, so that she can win. Online voting allows the max 50 votes…let’s put them all in …she deserves to be our American Idol 2012! Texting as well doesn’t hurt…It’s the only way we can get her to win! I’ve been doing it…United..we can make it happen!

I can’t vote from where I am but am right behind you all the way, Carmen. God bless Jessica. God bless us all.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

You nailed it, dude. It’s all right for Steven to scream, he does it like a man, but Joshua is an entirely different ball game. Ironic, too, that where Jessica growls, he shrieks.

  • paulyn

Im with you Carmen. We should spread the word. We can do this. He have 2 Wednesdays more.

  • paulyn

Just spread the word to your friends in US. That will be a big help for Jessica

  • paulyn

This is not a dancing contest.

  • paulyn

Just tell your friends from US to vote for Jessica, that would be a great help.

  • paulyn

IStanding there was so emotional already I really felt her song. If she moves it will become as if she is already acting.

  • paulyn

Thats true. From the time she sung I will always love you, the judges run out of words to describe her.

  • Anonymous

I’M male 55 yrs of age…teary eyed and lost my breath..!! WTF

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=709839807 Abraham de la Torre

If you think that’s old, I’ve been getting discounts since I got my card 3 years ago and was trying not to have a coronary when Jessica did that “soul-ripping” number.

  • Januarychocolate

Jessica is American! Born and raised in AMERICA with Filipino / Mexican parents. She speaks English and Spanish. This is AMERICAN IDOL and not the OLYMPICS or whatever country idol, the contestants are representing themselves for their talent and not for their ethnicity. I haven’t encountered any Joshua’s fans saying ‘Im proud to be African/ almighty AFRICAN talent’ or from Hollie’s supporters saying “I’m proud to be English”. They are all AMERICANS the very reason they are in AI show.

  • Ness_teodoro

Kinda agree. Although the judges did save jessica, i thought she but deserved that. And it’s only too obvious that JLo adores Joshua, even she admits to that. And even after a so-so performance, she jumps to her feet as if it were the greatest thing she heard in her life. So there has to be an angle here somewhere.

To be fair, Joshua IS the best singer among the males I’ve seen in idol. For me, that’s “ever.” And without Jessica, HE would be my bet. But between him and Jessica, I don’t know…I think “finesse” is what draws the line between the two. When Joshua delivers a song, his “vocal ability,” to use JLo’s signature line, is limited when compared to Jessica’s so that when he reaches his peak, he tends to scream rather than sing. Whereas Jessica, her voice is so powerful that even the highest notes, she is able to let go with such force, hold at length with the “vibrato” still managing to come at the end. So pro. But hey, don’t take my word for it, try it for yourself. Put a watch to the two’s highest notes and see who can hold their notes fuller and longer. And at the end of the day, that is what the best of the best ought to be able to do.

  • ham8113

I do take your word, Ness. My wife watched her rendition of “And I’m Telling You” three times! She was breathless each time. I watched it twice and knew what Jennifer Lopez meant by “ripped soul.” The girl is blessed with a stupendous gift!

  • Phillip fan

Think Jessica is soo boring, good voice, no personality…..I would fall asleep at a concert giving by her

  • Ladydtektalk

If ppl vote for VOCAL TALENT, then yes Jessica should win! If ppl give contestants the ‘pity’ vote then they will vote for Philip. Just sayin.

  • sandy

i just observed that JLO is so insecure on Jessica and the comments she had made was sometimes non sense. And also Holly, Skylar and the rest i think are so jealous of Jessica coz they only stood up for Joshua and not for her, there’s racial descrimination going on there. But they have to be supportive for the remaining contestants.. I dont know if Jessica has this experience being bullied by these people.. God bless you

  • Mci25

She may have defended her Proud Mary performance; however, she proceeded to chide Jessica for wearing her dress too tight. “It was tight. It was a little tight.” So who committed more of a fashion faux paus here? Jessica who is 16 and entitled to wear short, tight dresses since they are age-appropriate for her. Or, Jennifer who is pushing 45 years old and wears mini dresses that barely cover her rear or low rider pants that are riding pretty low? Just calling it as i see and hear it!

  • Mci25

I think JoLO intentionally chose one of the most hardest songs for Jessica. I’d like to see her even try to sing that Mariah Carey song even in front of her friends and family, let alone in front of millions of people like the brave 16 year old had to do. Jennifer’s own friends would bust up laughing. i think Jennifer is envious of Jessica’s gift as Jimmy calls it. Hearing that Tommy Matola immediately emailed Jimmy Ivine likely ripped Jennifer’s sole. She should just be happy with all of her blessings even if singing or having a spectacular voice is not one of them. She needs to admit that she is not as gifted in that department and quit being so emotional on the contestants — in this case getting jealous over Jessica Sanchez. I hope she realizes that her actions and behavior have been quite apparent to many viewers. She’s not as slick as she thinks with the “we thought and talked about these song choices a lot.” Wrong, Jennifer deliberately chose one of the hardest songs possible for anyone to sing — especially a 16 year old. NIce move!

  • callen

Saw the video again and checked JLos reaction. What I initially thought was a squirm actually was not. I realize now that JLo was in truth trying to hold back her tears. Watch her as Randy was giving his comment.
