Jessica Biel: Justin Timberlake “Has Better Taste Than I Do,” Picked Engagement Ring

(InStyle)

Jessica Biel says Justin Timberlake needed no help when he picked out an engagement ring for her.

In a cover interview for the August InStyle magazine, Biel acknowledges that Timberlake is the fashion leader in their relationship.

“I had no say whatsoever [in the ring],” says the actress. “I don’t micromanage.”

She says of her fiancé, “He is fearless in his choices and has a real eye for design. And I’ll be honest: He has better taste than I do.”

And that keen eye extends to the couple’s everyday life.

Biel explains, “When I walk out of the closet after getting dressed in the morning, I’ll go like this [turns palms upward as if to say, 'Well?'] And he goes like this [shakes his head no]. Then he picks again. It’s hilarious.”

But the actress sees more than just good style sense in her beau.

“It is important to me to have a partner who is loving and fun — someone who inspires me,” explains Biel. “And he must be a good person.”

She says that their relationship works in part because she and Timberlake make time for each other despite their busy schedules, although she’s discovered that maintaining some independence is also key.

Biel notes, “In my earlier experiences with relationships, I was really vulnerable to somebody else’s personality, hobbies and way of life. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve become proud of the traits that make me who I am.”

I thought it was normal that the guy picked out the engagement ring.

Ok, it’s sad that he’s dressing her and then she says she’s not vulnerable to what her partner says. And if that’s a jab at Chris Evans…she disappoints me. But I’m just venting…I wish them all the best if this is their true happiness.

    Same here.

Just can’t figure out the appeal of this woman. Do not find her attractive at all.

Don’t know any woman whose guy didn’t pick out their engagement ring. Anyone that doesn’t think Jessica Biel is beautiful is blind IMO. They seem to have a great relationship and I’m very happy for both of them.

Um since when is asking for his opinion on an outfit him dressing her?? You’ve never asked your bf/gf/husband/wife if they liked what you were wearing??

  • SuzyCreamCheese

    Gaydar!!!

  • Chris

Hope they are very happy….but she is no way a beauty

  • Trish

Yes but what I read..and I’m not going to read it again…is that he doesn’t like it an picks something else for her. As opposed to he doesn’t like it and she still wears it because she wants to. See the difference?

One of the men I worked with said, “I told my wife I provide the money you design the ring.” He wanted to her to have something she liked and would want to wear for years to come. He had a friend that was a jewelry maker so he had them sit down together and design a ring that she loved. I thought that was pretty awesome.

There is a difference is asking his opinion and allowing him to choose something different then him just selecting her clothes. It appears she thinks he has better taste and would like his assistance to look her best. Sort of like he is her personal stylist.

My first engagement my fiance picked the ring. I hated it. Nothing like what I envisioned for myself. Next engagement, I made sure I picked the ring. I am the one who has to wear it for the rest of my life. :)

I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder since every guy and girl I know thinks Biel is gorgeous. The only one it matters to is Timberlake and he obviously loves her.

  • Trish

Ok, I see what you’re saying but I don’t see it like that. I see it as she obviously wanted to wear what she picked because…well heck she picked it.. and then he changes her plans and she goes along with it. Then again, maybe his keen fashion sense is exactly why she lets him get away with it lol

  • Jessica

You don’t know me but I’m a girl and I think she has a different kind of beauty…like an acquired taste? Yes, something like that.

I think you guys are exaggerating and act like this is an everyday thing. I highly doubt he treats her like a mannequin every morning and picks out something for her to wear. Who’s to say he doesn’t like what she initially picks out. She was probably giving an example of when he says no. Girls pretend they only dress for other girls but they dress for guys too. People are making a bigger deal out of this then it needs to be. Besides gfs criticize what their bfs wear all the time but if it’s the other way around the guy is looked at as being controlling. Her comment doesn’t need to be taken all that seriously or literally

I let my husband’s opinion shade my choice of engagement-wedding ring set. He thinks white gold/rhodium looks cheap, like silver. I think it looks great, like platinum. He is an ignoramus. I wanted white gold with the 2 diamond rings, but he had a big fit. We both contributed to the rings we bought, but I let him win. I hate the yellow gold and diamond rings I have, I almost never wear them. To me, they look cheap. Sure, he’s finally gotten the message and he’s sorry now, but we have a lot better things to do with our money than replace my engagement-wedding rings. Lesson learned:, shut up when it comes to picking out a ring for your partner. You don’t have to wear it, they do.
