Miley Cyrus’ VMAs Date Jesse Helt Sentenced To Six Months In Jail
But because the judge subtracted 57 days for the time he served after turning himself in in August, Helt will remain behind bars at the Polk Country Jail for around four months. After Helt’s appearance at the VMAs with Cyrus, it came to light that he had had previously pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing and criminal mischief after breaking into the Oregon home of a man who had allegedly been selling bad marijuana.
He then subsequently — and repeatedly — violated his probation, failing to take drug tests or report to his probation officer, having moved to Los Angeles, where he lived on the streets as he tried to make it as a model. Helt’s attorney unsuccessfully argued for a lighter sentence and a continuance of his probation and community service instead of jail-time.
The lawyer argued before the judge that his client remained “completely off the radar” since his past was exposed nationally and did not give interviews or try to squeeze more of his “10 minutes of fame.” Noting that Helt wants to attend a community college and become a solar technician, his attorney said, “He wants to change.” Helt himself addressed the judge and asked to be “seen as a good person, not a nuisance to society.” The judge, however, was not swayed, and Helt was led out of court in handcuffs before heading to jail.
