Ryan Seacrest kicked off Wednesday’s “American Idol” on a serious note, explaining, “We discovered information that left us with no choice but to eliminate one of our finalists from the competition.”

He was, of course, referring to the revelation on Tuesday that Jermaine Jones was disqualified from the competition after producers discovered he had hid his serious criminal past.

Later in the episode, the show shared footage of the “Idol” producers confronting Jones about his failure to disclose his checkered history.

Noting they were “surprised” by the information, which included two arrests in 2011 where he gave fake names to the police, the producers said they could’ve helped Jones had he come clean from the start.

A melancholy Jones explained that he was “scared and nervous” that he’d be “judged” and “penalized.”

Well, he was right about being penalized.

“The fact is we’re not allowed to have anyone that has an outstanding warrant on the program,” said producer Ken Warwick, pointing out that Jones actually has four.

He added, “You’ve put us in a very delicate position… We have to let you go.”

Jones appeared to accept his fate without any protests.

American Idol did more damage than good to this young man (Jermaine Jones). The show did not do their homework… shame on you. May something special happen to this young man that will help him to a good road with that great voice.

It seems to me he did the damage to himself. Four outstanding warrants? Giving false names to the police? This guy tried to present himself as a straight arrow, when he has a demonstrated pattern of criminal behavior. How in the hell is that Idol’s fault?

  • Xedos

they use it for ratings. they leak it to the press days before then tape it. Dam its hard out their for a pimp. they would have never put him on the show had he tell the truth. at least he’s know he may still get a record deal . i would give him one if i could.

  • LaToya

I agree they d with the comment above. They did more harm than good. It was classic. When two white men with papers in their hands asked to talk it’s a No GO!! NEVERTHELESS…. He is an amazing vocalist and this is only the beginning for Jermaine!

  • Noblamegame

This young man has talent. It is a shame that he chose to ignore/break the rules. Why are people blaming the American Idol staff? They didn’t break the law. He gambled he could get away with going on national television w/ 4 outstanding warrants and wouldn’t get caught. He lost.

He needs to get his legal problems taken care of and then be able to reach for his dream. There will probably be several record labels willing to sign him up.

  • Reneedizon

Why do they need to reveal the truth? Jermaine is really a good singer. What does american idol do with it?

It’s just a shame that they showed it on tv like that, they only care about ratings. Yes he hid that part, but talk to him about it in the background, not in front of some stupid cameras. I blame the producers for airing it like it was some tv special, shame on them for that.

  • Anonymous

I only blame them for choosing to air it on tv, that part didn’t have to happen.

  • guest

Why did this get taped and why was it necessary to humiliate this fellow. The producers should have talked to him privately and left him with his dignity. Hope someone gives him a recording deal.

  • Billg71

If they didn’t put it on the air, then many would be crying “foul” or “racism” or some other unintelligent comment. You can’t just kick him off without an explanation. Not showing it would make Jones look like he had something to hide. No one is happy unless they find fault with something. It’s not like he was a major felon or anything, but people would have made it worse than it is. He lied, plain and simple. I don’t hold it against him. Sometimes we can be desperate to get ahead in life when it feels like everything is stacked against you. Good luck Jermaine!

Being Black with a record is hard. Even if you are reformed, the door is shut in your face from the beginning. I might have lied about it too… just to get a chance at my dream.

  • Jennifer

I agree. And, remember, he was a wild card pick to come back among other pretty weak choices. I’m sure they knew about his background before that. Everything on these shows is planned, choreographed, fluffed in the last detail, up to and including the winner, well in advance. Believe it.

  • Wjm_vnzlno_2004

I thought it was a BS… for american idol do that. Poeple has the righ to become better persons. They should have given him an opportunity to succed in life and be an example for all the youngs that get in trouble.
